Why was brake light switch replaced? you need to check things before replacement. is the brake light switch getting power? if not the fuse is blown. if it is getting power, is power going out? if so, check for power at the bulbs, if no power find out why, if the bulbs do have power, they are not getting ground. the ground wire is in trunk, I really dont know exact location. may be near high mounted brake light.

I have a 2001 Isuzu Trooper & the brake lights are out. Tail lights & blinkers work, the fuses & bulbs seem to be ok..what can I look for now?

There is a switch that is located above the brake pedal. It is called a brake senden switch. Make sure that it hasn't just lost contact with the brake pedal, that can happen, if it is bad, then it is a cheap fix

Would a bad Flasher relay cause the brake lights not to work?

The flasher does not stop the brake lights from working. Check # 18 fuse in fusebox under lower left side of dash. if it's ok, the brake light switch, on the brake pedal arm is next. light green wire with red stripe is hot if fuse 18 is ok. Depress brake pedal, light green with no stripe should have power. if not, replace brake light switch. If light green wire has power with pedal depressed, combination switch under the steering is next. Remove the cover from around the combo switch {under the steering wheel}. depress brake pedal, light green wire should have power. If it does, pedal still depressed, orange with light blue wire & wire with light green & orange should have power. Those 2 wires are brake & rear turn signal wires. { The turn signal switch should be in the middle, not right position or left. while checking for power in the last 2 wires. Good Luck drvolt.

I replace my brake switch & my light don't work? when i stop

IF THE FUSES INSIDE THE CAR & UNDER THE HOOD HAVE ALL BEEN CHECKED WITH A GOOD FUSE TESTER, & THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH REPLACED, THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS NEXT. THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO THROUGH THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH SO THEY CAN BE USED AS TURN OR BRAKE LIGHTS. I'M ASSUMING THE BULBS ARE OK. REMOVE THE PLASTIC FROM AROUND THE TURN SIG. SWITCH. STAY AWAY FROM ANY WIRES THAT ARE IN THE YELLOW SLEEVE. THEY ARE AIR BAG WIRES. WITH BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THERE SHOULD BE POWER IN THE WHITE WIRE. IF THERE IS NO POWER IN THE WHITE WIRE, YOU MAY HAVE TO PUT A BYPASS WIRE FROM THE WHITE WIRE COMING OUT OF THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TO THE WHITE WIRE GOING INTO THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. IF THAT DOESN'T MAKE THE BRAKE LIGHTS WORK, THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH MUST BE BAD.

Have a 1999 Chev. Suburban. Problem is with brake lights. Top panel (on roof) works but neither side panel works. Replaced circut boards in tail lights, new bulbs, and all fuses are good. What next?

WITH A GOOD FUSE TESTER, TEST ALL THE FUSES FUSEBOX UNDER THE HOOD & INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IF THE FUSES ARE ALL GOOD WITH THE TESTER YOU MUST HAVE A BAD BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR A BAD TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. THE BRAKE LIGHT CIRCUIT GOES UP THROUGH THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH & THEN TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS. FIRST OF ALL IS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH GOOD ? THE ORANGE WIRE FEEDS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, THE WHITE WIRE PUTS POWER TO THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, SO THE LIGHTS CAN BE USED AS TURN LIGHTS OR BRAKE LIGHTS. , PUT A TESTER IN THE WHITE WIRE & PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IF THE TEST LIGHT LIGHTS UP, BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS GOOD, BY THE WAY THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE MAY BE LABELED" STOP", THE FUSE LABELED" BRAKE" IS FOR THE ABS SYSTEM. TO CHECK THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH FOR BRAKE LIGHTS, REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER FROM UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL, PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, PUT THE TESTER IN THE SMALL YELLOW WIRE, THEN THE SMALL GREEN WIRE. IF THERE IS NO POWER IN EITHER WIRE, THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS BAD.

Brake lights are out, the cab brake works but not the tail ones. Bulbs are good cause turn signal works, fuses don't appear bad and need to ck brake switch and replace to see if fixes. Please help!!!

THE FUSE FOR THE BRAKE LIGHTS MAY BE LABELED " STOP ". GM USES BRAKE FUSE FOR THE " ABS " HOWEVER, THE FUSES NEED TO BE TESTED WITH A FUSE / CIRCUIT TESTER, IN THE FUSES BOX UNDER THE HOOD & THE FUSE BOX INSIDE THE VEHICLE.

Brake lights don t work turn works lights work brake light does not eover window works

First check the 25 amp fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. If that fuse is OK, contine troubleshooting below.

If the center brake light is working, check the 15 amp brake fuse in the cabin. If the center brake light is not working, the problem is probably the brake switch above the pedal. Take the connector off the pedal and use a big paper clip to connect the 2 terminals in the connector. If this turns the lights on, replace the switch. Let me know if you have questions.
