Well Strauss told you wrong. You can replace just the fuel filter without replacing the fuel pump. And you are in luck because on your Hyundai there is an access panel which allow you to access the fuel pump without removing the fuel tank. Read the warnings and heed them. Work in well ventilated area with all windows on the vehicle down, disconnect the battery before starting this repair, and use every precaution to not have any sparks near where you are working. Click the link for detailed instructions with photos. Please be very careful and do not attempt this unless you feel confident you can accomplish this repair. http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17699

When putting gas in the car, I can only pump 1 gal. in at a time.
The gas comes up the tube and clicks the handle right away.

It's your charcoal canister..there is a plastic screen inside of it that fails and clogs up the vent lines with tiny charcoal pellets. The canister is drivers side rear of car near bumper.

Where is the fuel filter located on a 2001 Hyundai elantra

That fuel filter is in the fuel tank, attached to the fuel pump. Not a very difficult job. Remove the rear seat cushion, then remove the access panel to the pump. Remove the gas cap to relieve any pressure. Remove the ground wire and fuel lines, then remove the filter.

I am still having problems with my 2003 Hyundai Elantra making backfiring noises. I just had a fuel injection cleaning that cost nearly $90 performed and the problem is still there. Some of you have said...

Backfiring is caused by timing , bent or burnt valves. If the timing belt was replaced but not put on correctly, you will have this problem. The marks MUST be aligned correctly.

I , i try to find the fuel filter for my hyundai elantra 2001

The fuel filter is located under the rear seat in a compartment above the fuel tank. Also, a filter sock at the base of the fuel pump located
in the fuel tank.

On 2001 models the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump. To replace the fuel filter, disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the back seat and take fuel pump cover off to get to the fuel pump. Then you have to 1) disconnect the electrical connector from fuel pump/fuel sending unit, 2) disconnect the high pressure hose and the fuel return hose from the fuel pump and 3) remove the fuel pump mounting flange screws. You can then lift the fuel pump and replace the filter.

Good luck and hope this helps
