My car has no pressure in the cooling system. It appears to be circulating, but no pressure. I had a leak somewhere around the back of the intake manifold, which i apparently fixed with a bottle of sealant i put in with coolant. The car also gets hot if i dont run the heater. In addition to that, when i turn off my heater/AC, you can hear a constant hissing sound right behind the vents in the center of the dash. WTF??

Do you have a coolant reservoir? Does the coolant level rise as the engine warms up and lowers as the engine cools off? If so, the engine cooling system is sealed. If the system isn't sealed, when it is cooling, it can't draw coolant from the reservoir. Does the radiator have a radiator cap, with cold engine, remove the cap, can you see coolant level in radiator?
How hot does engine get in degrees F? There is your thermostat and radiator cap. Water boils at 212 degrees f atmospheric pressure. With a 16 lb radiator cap, it should raise the boiling point about 32 degrees. The boiling point should be around 250 degrees F. w/o any pressure, I would suspect it would boil over in a hurry.

SOURCE: Hose from water pump to intake manifold above and behind water pu

this is a water pump bypass hose connector to the manifold, take the broken piece to a parts store and show it to them, it should have the threads still broken off in the manifold so explain that. To remove the broken piece ask for a EZ OUT to fit the piece you took to the store.
It is common for these to become brittle and break off but it is a simple fix.

SOURCE: intake manifold sealant repair now leaking maybe oil? coolant b4

You need to remove the thermostat housing again. Then you will have to extract the bolts you broke off. You will need to drill and tap them so you can use an easy out to remove the broken bolts from the threads. Then you can clean up both mating surfaces and replace the gasket and the thermostat. Check to make sure you did not crack the thermostat housing or you may have another leak when finished. They are usually aluminum and break easily if too much pressure is applied or they are corroded and weak.

Is there any water in your oil? An Intake gasket leak could be the problem.. Is there water vaper in the exhaust, maybe a cracked head...Has got a 3400 series engine? Not sure a Grand am has a 3400 in there line up,There are plastic 90's in the heater lines on the front of the motor that can be pretty sneaky, dripping where you can't see it very well...Have your rad. cap checked or replaced.... Hope that helps ....

Leaks get worse when engine is at operating temp and pressure builds. Rent a cooling system pressure tester and pressurize the system. Then you'll see the leak

How do i tell if my intake manifold is leaking on my 2002 chevy malibu

There is a updated version of the intake manifold gasket set because they are so prone to leaking, a quick pressure test of the cooling system should determine if the intake is leaking or not do not exceed the rated pressure stamped on the radiator cap or serious damage can result

Can't keep coolant level up not leakin that i can

Hello cranky48also,

A very common problem with the 4.3 engine is the intake manifold gasket. The coolant will leak into the intake ports and be blown out the exhaust and you may not see it or it may also leak into the engine and fill your oil pan. Often you can see the signs at the front of the engine where the intake, head and engine block meet, check both sides.

If it is not apparent there you will need to do a coolant pressure test to find the leak.

I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue that has a small coolant leak. It appears to be leaking somewhere under the motor on the drivers side of the vehicle. I ran it up yesterday and the fans seem to cycle...

Could be intake gaskets, Use a rad. cap/rad. pressure tester, dont pressurize system higher than the rad cap is rated for(psi). You might find the leak that way.

I have a 2004 Kia Sedona I have replaced the theromostat the fans are comeing on but still overheats I havent had any problems untill yesterday

After replaceing the thermostat, dont fill the radiator or top it off, untill the engine warms up and the thermostate opens, so the system will circulate. From the top, through the radiator, and into the waterpump inlet. And back to the heads, and the intake, cooling and purgining out all the air,or there will be an air pocket. And the motor will over heat, from lack of or the proper amount of coolant, and not enough circulation, for cooling.

Overheating

Overheating can be caused by several things including low/no coolant, blocked/broken hose, faulty water pump, stuck thermostat. CHeck the coolant level in the over flow tank and in the radiator itself. If it's low you know you have a leak somewhere. If it's full you know the coolant isn't circulating through the system.

Let the car run until it heats up then feel the upper and lower hoses on the radiator, they should both be hot and firm when the coolant is circulating. If the top is hot and the bottom is cool and pliable then you know the coolant isn't going through. The most common cause of this is a thermostat that isn't opening. Look to make sure the water pump is operating properly, that's what circulates the water through the motor.

If you suspect a leak then you need to find where it's coming from. Check around the head/intake gaskets for signs of leakage as well as around the side tanks on the radiator and all hoses and connections.

Start with the small/obvious things first and progress from there. Good luck.

Overheating losing fluid around intake manifold,is this a blown head gasket what other possibilities could cause overheating besides radiator and thermostat

The intakes on these are bad to leak, this is most likely the problem, there has to be enough coolant in the system to flow correctly, and no air in the cooling system.
