The indicator on my car says check engine, and the code reads P2716. However, the problem is my car is on 89 K miles, and Toyota dealers are not honoring any Corolla over 80 K miles. What should I do? Thanks

Sorry, could be any number of things. You will need to get the code read. I recommend a Toyota dealer for that. Also it could be temporary but why take a chance? Does the car still drive normally? If it drives OK, and I'm not saying it is a good idea, you could consider driving the car for a little while to see if the light goes out. Best to get the code read however.

That car may run forever with check egine light on, but you can visit most any auto parts store to get code read for free.
Often the light refers to oxygen sensor.. Maybe just need plugs or wires etc. Go to Auto Zone ask to check code for free.

make sure engine is off when oppening fuel cap.and is time to change 02 sensor

You have a bad engine ECU just bring your car to your local toyota dealer and and they will replaced it for free if your vehicle has less than 80,000 miles.

The check engine light is to alert you that the computer has identified a fault in one of the car's systems The dealer will most likely run a scan and see if any fault codes are stored. Well Try to talk the service maneger into helping you, say it is funny that it just happed comming otout of the shop and toyota likes to keep good coustmer ratings ask then if they would just pull it and clen it for you and reset the computer they may do it. I know the Toyota dealer in MY local town and they have a good reputation for going the extra mile for their coustmers. When I have one brought in to me and I know it's in warrenty or just out by a short time I call em and if they say yes I send them the coustmer, and I get a good rep that way and so do they.

You have to know what code is stored to fix the problem. Toyota's will generally display a Check Engine light, VSC and TRAC light all at the same time, even if it's a simple problem with an oxygen sensor (for example). You can disconnect the negative battery cable for a few minutes, even though you should a scan tool should be used, to clear out the code.
