You will need a puller to remove the front crank pulley/ balancer. then its a matter of prying the seal out.

Replacing water pump & timing belt on 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T. Easy to replace front main seal, too?

oil seal failure is the main killer of rubber timing belts . Oil can come from the crankshaft seal --the cam shaft seal/s and the hydraulic belt adjuster.. So if you have the front off and am replacing the timing belt then it is fools economy not to replace the seals and any idler pulleys at the same time.

How to replace a rear main seal in a 2001 chevy 2500

several things, the rear main seal is accessable by removing the transmission. if this vehicle is standard transmission, then would recomend new clutch at this time given the amount of labor involved. if automatic, remove drive shafts, transfer case, transmission, and flexplate ....replace rear main. approx 5 hrs.

I was told I have to replace the crankshaft seal and oil pan gasket on my 2000 chevy malibu and will cost approx. $380.00. Also is the rear main seal the same thing as the crankshaft seal??? Thanks!

Well sometimes.... the front crankshaft seal is usually called a crank seal, or the front timing cover seal but the rear crank seal is (usually) called the Rear Main crank seal. In order to replace the rear seal , the transmission will need to be removed. If its the front, then the harmonic balancer will be removed. $380 sounds cheap. As you will need a oil seal, oil pan gasket, oil, filter, labor and tax. Maybe even a lower engine mount.

My Chevy 2002 Tahoe is leaking oil. They told me

this truck is equipped with an aluminum oil pan you could have 1 or several things going on... a stripped drain plug which is causing it to leak or it may be a leaking front seal or a rear main seal. If it is a front seal it is not to labor intensive. But if it is a rear main seal leaking it will require the transmission to be removed since the seal is a 1 piece rear main
