How do I remove the rear end on a 1999 ford F150

Turn the differential around until you find the small bolt that is holding the differential pinion shaft into the carrier housing, this is the shaft thar runs through the carrier housing that the spider gears rotate on. Remove the bolt and slide the pinion shaft out towards you, if you have limited slip there will be a metal spring shaped kind of like an S that will need to be carefully pried out using a screwdriver or pry bar. You will need to remove the brake drum or rotor depending what type of brake you have on the left side, then just push the axle into the housing about half an inch, look in the center of the carrier housing on the end on the axle you just pushed inward, there will be a C clip on the end of the axle. The C clip looks like a washer with a notch cut in it, remove the C clip using needle nose pliers or a magnet, the axle should now just pull out.

How do I replace the rear end wheel bearing on driver side? It's a 2007 Crown Victoria. I was driving it to work one day and the back end locked up. It will drive forward but it makes the most horrific...

#1. A wheel bearing should not lock up the rear end. #2. Sounds like you have a far worse problem, probably in the differential. To replace the wheel bearing you need to remove the diff cover, take out the spider gear pin remove the locking c clip and remove the axle. Obviously the left rear wheel and rotor and caliper have to be removed as well. then the bearing ,which is pressed into the housing needs to be removed. If the bearing is that bad the axle will need to be replaced as well.

I had a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria with An H9 rear axle code. I want to know what rear axle code is comparable to the H9 for a Mercury Grand Marquis?

reading forums on this reveals that the h9 is a 3.55 limited slip diff mainly used in f150 fords. However all that is immaterial as what you are looking for is a diff centre that is 3.55 ratio that will fit in your housing . The same housing will use the both LSD and normal diffs as the LSD was an option offered for off road vehicles or vehicles operating in bad road conditions

How do i change out my rear end

remove wheels calipers and rotors, remove rear cover and drain oil from diff, remove abs sensors if it has abs, remove axle shafts, this is done by removing the 8mm bolt holding the pin, slide pin out push axle in to remove c clip holding axle then slide out, do the same to other side, note dont spin diff or gears will fall out, dissconect driveshaft, next remove axle vent and unbolt brake hose from axle, leaving brake lines connected unclip them from axle housing, next support diff with jack, dissconect lower shock bolts and slide shocks to side, remove upper control arm bolts from diff, slowly lower diff to release spring tension now remove springs and remove lower arm bolts. lower diff and take out. reverse to install. hope this helps.

05 crown victoria police package rear axle removal

there are two main designs. One uses a bearing and flange at the backing plate area, release that and you can pull the axle and bearing.

the Other design is call a c lock axle. Inside the carrier, there are 4 spider gears. Two are splined to the alxes and two idle on an idler shaft. Remove this shaft, and then you can push the axle shaft inwards about an inch or so.

this will allow you to remove the c shaped retainer that is engauged with a groove at the inboard end of the axle.

So, now the bad news: often the c lock axle uses the axle shaft itself and the inside bearing race...which means if the bearing has failed, you need to replace the axle also.... Inspect carefully. Metal temper is the issue and once that is comprimised, you need to replace.

How to remove rear axel from ford crown victoria tne axel is loose and making noise leaking fluid i think it neds a new seal

do u mean the axle has "play" when u grab the tire and wiggle it up and down?? if it has play, then it propbably needs an AXLE SEAL AND AXLE BEARING.you will have to carefully inspect the axle itself where the bearing rides for any gouging or damage. THIS JOB requires a decent amount of mechanical skill. 1ST you need to remove the rear end COVER and drain out the gear oil into a drain pan.2ND remove the brake caliper and rotor . 3RD spin the" ring and pinion " around until u see a 5/16 bolt that passes thru from the pass. side to the drivers side. u have to remove this bolt. u will need to "hold "the gears from turning in order to break loose this bolt. 4TH remove this bolt and slide out the large metal ""PIN" that 'divides" the rear end in half. NOW CAREFULLY WITHOUT TURNING THE REAR END SPIDER GEARS,PUSH IN THE AXLE TOWARDS THE INSIDE SO U CAN REMOVE THE "C-CLIP" AT INNER END OF AXLE. now u can slide out axle and youll be able to replace seal and if needed axle bearing. let me know if u need more info.

How do you remove c-clips on axle of 95 ford rear end?

If you have already removed the outer axle bearing cover in the rear hub, try popping the axle out as some of them have a compression clip holding it in place in the differential. If it doesn't pop loose, you wil have to remove the differential cover and push the axle inward enough to access the retaining clip to remove it. It should slide out fairly easile once the axle is pushed in far enough to clear the retainer clip lock collar.
