Lately, When the engine gets hot enough, and after poping some kickdowns in it, i start to hear a sound while the engine is in idle ( or when i let the car march on D, without using the pedal).
This sound, sounds like ''two metal keys'' in contact.
when you open the hood, you hear the normal bmw engine noise.
But when you lay low, and put your ears just in front of the front bumper or the radiator Fan, you can hear this sound.
I recently changed all the belts + water pump ( 2 months ago).
Please, any recommendation would be much appreciated.
Ck for excessive play in the electric cooling fan blades - theses usually only come on when the car is hot or ac is used. You can also check this by locating the fan relay(s) and removing them when you hear the noise.

Since diagnosing any engine noise is hard to do on the internet, I suggest you have a shop listen to the noise, they will give you a better idea of what might be causing it and how much it is to repair.
If the engine ran hot [overheated] long enough then there may be some internal engine damage such as a scored piston or damaged cylinder head. If the engine was hot enough when it was shut off or stalled it may have had to cool down for a while before it would restart. You might get lucky and the noise is being caused by something simpler such as a water pump bearing or drive belt pulley. I'd start by checking both the oil and coolant levels then inspecting the water pump and drive belt for any faults. If the noise is coming from inside the engine then you'll most likely need to have a service facility take a look at it to see where the noise is coming from. Good luck, hope this helps!
this is a very common issue with any of the bmws with n52 and n52k engine,as long as oil level is ok and is being changed regularly than than a "blleding proceedure" may solve this problem, when the engine has been running long enough that it is hot run the engine at idle to 4500 rpm for 10 to 12 min to start, if is still present after this attempt again. It has been said that this could take up to 30 min at longest. The reason for the ticking noise is a very tiny air gap in the hva and or lifters, try this and if does not work than the lifters should be replaced, although this noise doesnt really hinder the performance it does take away from driving such a nice car and having a loud noise come from the engine, good luck
it sounds to me like you have an ignition problem, especially because of the poping noise check the plugs and wires first{common problem} get back to me if you need more help Thanks Ray Please rate my fix?
An overheating engine will often shudder and make a unique popping/rattling noise. Is it doing that? If it ever does that it's time to call a tow truck or further risk major engine repairs. Try turning on your heater. Your heater makes its heat by blowing air through a mini-radiator (like the one at the front of your car) and pushing that hot air through to the inside of the car. Is the air coming out of the vents warm to normally hot or I-just-opened-the-oven make your skin tingle hot? Check and make sure you have coolant (when the engine is cool) and fill to where it should be. There may not be enough to circulate through the cooling system but enough to hit the temp. sensor and give you warnings.
could be the oil pump. Had the same problem w/ E 30. Installed a pressure gauge and check performance at different speeds. Pressure was consistently low against specs. Change the pump . . problem gone.
hello right have u had service done recently may be sh**y plugs check oil lvls and get her running with someone reving and unplug air flow meter se wht happens if theres no change in engine noise it prop tht otherwise take off air intake pipes etc check for blockages (very rare) i can also suggest common fault is pipe from air flow meter to the engine suffers dramaticly from lil cracks and alsorts check tht over completely and the hoses beneath it try all tht first if you dnt have any luck thn start thinking fuel filter alot of crappy fuel about nowadays but i rekon its your pipes either crackes of poped off let me know how ya get on
i want to mwntion that , the sound is like a cricket sound !
