TCS stands for Traction Control System.
The traction control system works in conjunction with your Antilock Brake System (ABS) and your Engine Control Module (ECM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Electronic Control Unit (ECU) (Note that ECM, ECU, and PCM all mean the computer that controls your engine, depending on make.)

Anyway, the traction control system can apply one or more of the brakes and control engine RPM in the event that a wheel slip has been detected by the traction control system.

Pushing the TCS button on most models will light a lamp in the instrument cluster that usually says "Trac Off" Pressing it a second time will turn this light back off.

When the "Trac Off" light is illuminated, the Traction Control System is disabled and will not work in the event of a wheel slip.

Also note that when the Traction Control System is working and a wheel slip is detected, The Traction Control Module will usually illuminate a light that says "Trac" as it is taking control of your brakes and engine. It can feel really strange when this occurs and some people think that their transmission is slipping or that their engine has a misfire problem.
The chances are that if it occurred on wet, slippery pavement, the Traction Control System may have just saved your life.

If this is happening on dry pavement and normal driving conditions (starting, stopping, or turning), there may be a problem with the system. "False Traction Control" can happen just like a bad wheel sensor causing "False Antilock Mode".

Also check your Owners Manual for more specific information pertaining to your particular vehicle.

How do you reset tcs/slip light on a 1999 infinit q45

Hi there:

Pull the codes to get started. Normla process is when the slip light will flash on and then go off. TCS is your Traction Control System. It is normal for it to go off If the rear wheels are slipping. You may have worn tires or you are driving on ice or snow. Are you on a slippery surface when this happens? You can always shut the system down by pressing the TCS off button in the center console.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

I have a 2002 Hyundai XG350. Today I went to get a remote start/keyless entry installed. When I left the shop I noticed the TCS light was on. I was running late for class so I had no time to stop and ask...

The TCS light is Traction Control System. It is a nusiance (in my opinion) that prevents tires from skidding in slick conditions. These cars seem to have very touchy electrical systems. That's all I can offer.

1990 volvo 740gl far left corner of dashboard has a yellow light thats on constantly. a diagram of a car with a zigzag road. whats that mean.

Either you have a problem with the TCS (Traction Control System), or the TCS is switched off. Most cars with TCS have a button on the shift or the dash labeled "TCS" or "TCS OFF". Find the button, and press it with the car running in gear. If the light goes out, problem solved.
If you cannot manually disengage TCS (no button), or when you press the TCS button the light flashes, check all your brakes and make sure none are dragging or worn out. Also make sure all your tires are properly inflated and balanced, and none are worn out.
TCS works by controlling your brakes on slippery roads and will dynamically apply the brakes to each wheel in order to prevent a skid, even when your foot is not on the brake pedal. During normal driving, the TCS light is out and will either come on briefly or flash when it is active and preventing your car from going into a skid. When the light is on constantly, the system is disabled- either because it was shut off by the driver pressing the TCS (or TCS OFF) button, or because the system has detected a brake problem and automatically disabled it for safety reasons. Worn or dragging brakes, a tire that is flat or worn, or even a wheel that is badly out of balance will cause the system to disable itself, and a severe wheel alignment problem will also.

1998 Cadillac Catera-what is the snow flake symbol on the console? and what does tcs button on console stand for? 2 defrost buttons-one is square, one is rounded, what is each for Thank You!

Snowflake is A/C. TCS is the traction control system. The defrost button that is rounded on the bottom of the pic is for the front window. The one with the square bottom is for the rear window.

Automatic Traction Control shut off

The button for the TCS is located on the lower dashboard next to the cruise control button. You will be able to see the TCS light go out when the car is running when you press this button. The TCS light is right next the odometer.
