How to and location: Mazda MX3 V6 fuel filter replacement?
On the V6, there are two, one in the gas tank (more a screen than a filter) and an inline one in the engine compartment. Chances are it's the second one you want, it's located on the firewall just behind the exhaust headers, underneath and central from the battery tray (US spec anyhow). It's a royal pain to get to, you are going to get gas on you, the process involves removing the battery and tray, and going under and over the car a lot to get to it, but it's a few clamps and a few (3 or so) support bracket screws once you get to it. It's about the size of a soda can (maybe a little smaller, I don't remember exactly). Read the "online shop manual" at "mx-3.com" under the Technical section, you will want/need to depressurize the injectors before releasing the hoses if you don't want gas to spray everywhere. Once you have followed the steps, keep a bucket under the car to catch the seemingly 200 gallons of gas in the fuel line (from the engine side, really probably 20oz or so), and have a way to either pinch off or plug the fuel tank side of the line or it will siphon all the gas out of the tank. Other than that it's just a bunch of knuckle busting in close quarters.
well Ted best of luck. After doing some more reserch it is where my previous post said. take care

Actually, I believe that the filter in need of replacement, is the filter (FRAM G3850, or similar) mounted near the gas tank. This Mazda was stored (outside, in FL heat) for well over a year! Car occasionally stammers and stalls, particularly with a near-empty tank. Otherwise, it runs well.
I've recently suffered a stroke and must limit my time under vehicle for this repair, and truthfully, I can't remember its location!
Thanks! --- Ted.
OK, OK! Let's try another approach! I suffer from C R S: (Can't Remember Sh--!)
I've replaced many fuel filters or screens (as well as just about every other part) in my lifetime! But, since NONE of the several service & repair publications currently in my possession, show the location of this filter, I am seeking a diagram, sketch or verbal description of its location on this vehicle, as well as any pertinent removal and installation instructions.
Depending upon its location and accessibility, I may either attempt this replacement myself, or employ my neighbor's youngster to do the "wrenching"!
I thank you in advance for your prompt and informative reply. --- Ted.
