Airbag light stays on when the system has detected a fault and switched the system off. Sometimes it isn't an airbag light but an SRS (supplemental restraint system) light that also includes seatbelts and seatbelt pretensioners.

You will need to have a fault code reading done by someone with knowhow and some suitable equipment.

If the check engine light comes on, then the coputer has detected a problem. Disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes will "reset' the computer. Howwever if the problem still exsists, the light will come back on. It could be a simple as a loose gas cap or something more complex. The only way to determine what the problem is, is to retrieve the code(s). You will need an OBD II code reader. In some states your local auto parts store will do this for you.

There are lots of sensors in your car that tell the Airbag Module that you are in the seat.
The seatbelts also have sensors in them and are known for going bad. Run down to your local autozone and they will have something to hook up to it to find the code that the Airbag set.That will lead you in the dirrection you need to look in. (Important) YOUR AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY WHILE THE LIGHT IS ON IF YOU ARE IN A ACCIDENT

You can take your vehicle to the local auto parts store and they will be able to reset that code for you. Assuming there is nothing wrong with it, it will not come back on.
