The cause of this is one of the door ajar switches is defective, the most common is the sliding side door, they look like pins that are spring loaded, they get worn and this creates a poor connection, the ford dealer can hookup a special scan tool to id which switch is the problem excactly.

SOURCE: 95 ford windstar door ajar

These switches are inside the doors attached to the door latch assembles. If you know some one with a scan tool you can go into the body computer and see which one is showing open when all the doors are closed. The most likly one is the drivers side door or the two in the rear gate. I've replaced those the most.If you don't want to replace them you can unplug them and the lights will go off. Hope this helps. If you need more info let me know> Thanks Dan

SOURCE: Ford taurus door ajar light stays on

I had the same problem. WD40 cured this in a flash! Be generous with the WD40 to allow parts to loosen and clean the "gue" that has built-up over the years. Several open and closings of the door should do the trick. Note that cold weather exasperates this condition. The best to you all in the new year!

The head lights and the fog lights have seperate fuses in the fuse panel under the dash. If the fuse is blown, you might possibly have a short. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: "door ajar" indicator and overhead lamps will not go off

PB BLASTER LUBE is the best to use on these latch assembleys you can buy it at your local parts store. spray all door latches really good and open and close doors 10 to15 times this usually frees up the stuck switch

SOURCE: door ajar idiot light wont go out and bells is going off on a 1997 ford windstar minivan. which fuse do i pull thanks no manual

Sound like one of the door jamb switches is bad. Try taking a pencil or screw driver and pushing in on each door switch. Push the switch beyond the "flush" point to see if the switch is just not fully closing.

Door ajar light wont go out when doors are closed

inside the door jam, there are little pin switches to indicate the car is closed like a small switch, sometimes the wires decay, or they simply break and thus leaving the light on. check them all on each door and the boot.

MY DOME LIGHTS STAY ON EVEN WHEN ALL THE DOORS ARE SHUT ON MY 96 WINDSTAR THE DASHBOARD IDIOT LIGHT STATES THAT THERE IS A DOOR AJAR BUT ALL DOORS CLOSED. I CLEANED ALL CONTACTS ON BACKDOOR AND SLIDING...

Spray lubricant in the driver's and passenger door latches. One of the switches in the latch are sticking. Open and close the door several times to free up the switch.

Have 99 windstar and the door ajar sensor will not go off.

Take some wd-40 and spray into the latch area of all of the doors. Then open and close doors several times. See if the light goes out. If not you may be looking at replacing a door ajar switch.

My door ajar alarm stays on as if the door is open but they are all closed and i don't know what is wrong

On every door or door frame there is a small switch that gets depressed when you close the door and turns the door ajar warning off. Check all 5 switches, including trunk (unless you know which door is the culprit). The switch is more than likely broken or malfunctioning.

Inside lights

Remove "Door Ajar" switch. Clean the switch and use a graphite type lubricant (I recommend "Dry-Slide") to lubricate the actuator on the switch. Reassemble the switch.

The switches are located inside the door panels, attached to the catch mechanism.

1) Remove interior door panel.

2) Using a T-27 Torx driver, remove the 3 bolts holding the catch in the door.
2a) The door ajar switch is the only part on the mechanism with the 2-wire harness.
2b) The switch is located at the rear catch for the sliding door.

3) Using a small flat screwdriver, gently lift the black tab on the catch mechanism and rotate the switch to remove it from the catch assembly.

4) Using a rag, clean the small round actuator and apply a small amount of graphite lubricant to the actuator and work the switch so it moves freely.

5) Reassemble the catch and the door.
