One fuel filter is in the fuel pump of the Express Chevy 3500, which is used to push fuel or gasoline through the fuel line. The fuel pump is inside the gas tank. This fuel filter is a mesh or screen that prevents large foreign particles for entering the fuel pump. Access to the fuel filter is obtained by removing the fuel tank and then the fuel pump from the fuel tank.

Second Fuel Filter Location

The second fuel filter is within the fuel line itself. After the fuel pumps extracts fuel from the gasoline tank and into the fuel line, fuel flows through the line and through another filter on the driver's side of the Express Chevy 3500 under the front wheel suspension. This fuel filter cleans the small particles that escaped from the fuel tank.

Fuel Filter Types

The year of your Chevy Express 3500 determines what type of fuel filter is installed on the van. The fuel tank filter is always mesh or screen, but the fuel line filter can be of three different types. Two types are snap-on filters, while one type has clip-on ends.

Removal & Installation

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
   NOTE The fuel filter is located underneath the vehicle in the area of the rear suspension.
   
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
3. Raise the vehicle.
   NOTE To remove the lines, press the quick-release tabs on the connectors.
   
4. Remove or disconnect the following:
   
   Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) vapor line Fuel filter lines Fuel filter and bracket assembly Fuel filter

To install:

1. Install or connect the following:
   
   Fuel filter Fuel filter and bracket assembly Fuel filter lines EVAP vapor line
   
2. Start the engine and check for leaks.

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
3. Raise the vehicle.
   NOTE To remove the lines, press the quick-release tabs on the connectors.
   
4. Remove the fuel filter bolt and remove it from the bracket.

To install:

1. Position the fuel filter into the bracket. Ensure the fuel flow direction is properly aligned.
2. Install and tighten the fuel pump bracket bolt.
3. Lubricate the fuel tube fittings with clean engine oil. Align the fuel tube fittings and press together until a click is heard and then pull on the fittings to make sure they are fully engaged.
4. Start the engine and check for leaks

Should not change all the fuel line .Cut the bad line fuel and Measure the required distance . and take with you the bad line fuel to Advance Auto Parts . and ask him for new line and fuel filter and Link to connect the line fuel together , make sure no leak . good luck .

Removing the Fuel Filter

1 Unscrew the fuel cap. This will relieve the pressure in the fuel lines.

2 Crawl under the vehicle and locate the fuel filter. The filter is located by the cross member in front of the fuel tank.

3 Separate the tabs on the quick connect fitting and pull off from the fuel line. This is the inlet line.

4 Unscrew the outlet line with a crescent wrench. Pull the outlet line off the filter.

5 Unbolt the mounting bracket with a socket wrench. Pull the filter off.

Installing the Fuel Filter

1 Bolt the new filter to the mounting bracket with a socket wrench. Ensure the arrow points toward the front of the vehicle. The arrow indicates fuel flow.

2 Push the quick connect fitting on the inlet line of the filter. The fitting will click in place when the line is properly installed.

3 Bolt the outlet line to the filter with a crescent wrench. Ensure the line is snug.

4 Screw the gas cap back on to the fuel nozzle. Close the gas door.

5 Start the car to allow the fuel to circulate through the fuel lines. Listen for any stalling or hesitation

Open the gas door and remove the gas cap. This will help to alleviate the pressure in the fuel line.

Step 2 Crawl under the Bravado and trace the fuel line from the fuel tank. The filter is an in-line filter and attached to the fuel line.

Step 3 Unsnap the fuel inlet line from the filter. The filter is equipped with a quick-connect fitting that can be unsnapped and pulled off the piping of the filter.

Step 4 Remove the outlet line off the piping of the filter. This line can removed the same as the inlet line.

Step 5 Unbolt the mounting bracket holding the filter in place with a socket wrench. The bracket is held in place by one bolt.
Replacing the Fuel Filter

Step 1 Attach the new fuel filter to the mounting bracket and secure it to the frame. Tighten the bracket snugly with the socket wrench. Ensure the arrow on the filter is facing toward the front of the vehicle. The arrow indicates fuel flow direction.

Step 2 Snap the inlet line on the filter. Push the line on to the piping of the filter till it clicks in place.

Step 3 Connect the outlet line on the filter. This line will snap in place as well.

Step 4 Screw the gas cap back on to the fuel door. Close the gas door.

Step 5 Crank up the SUV and let it idle. Ensure there is no hesitation or stalling

Removal

1. Use the Fuel Line Disconnect Tool to disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel filter;

Installation

1. NOTE: When installing fuel lines to the fuel filter, push the lines onto the ports until a definite "click" is heard, then pull on the fittings to ensure they are engaged.
   Install the fuel filter.

1. Connect the fuel lines.

If you can locate where the fuel line goes into the Carb. Remove the fuel line then the larger nut behind that.The fuel filter is inside the larger nut.It is hard to try and get the fuel line off without both moving or twisting the fuel line,and most times there is not enough room to bend it out of the way to get the fuel filter out.If all else fails you can cut the metal line just leave a few inches back from the nut then when reinstalling you can patch it back with a rubber fuel line and clamps.You may also look into installing a inline fuel filter in better location.Well hope this helped.

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. For details regarding this procedure, please refer to Section 5 of this manual.
   
2. If not done already, disconnect the negative battery cable.
   
3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
   
4. Clean both fuel feed pipe connections and the surrounding areas at the in-line fuel filter with a clean rag to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
   
5. Using a backup wrench, remove the fuel line fittings from the fuel filter.
   
6. Either separate the quick-connect fittings or remove the fuel filter mounting screws, then slide the fuel filter out of the mounting bracket.
   
7. Discard the fuel line O-rings and replace with new ones during installation.
   

To install:

1. Install new O-rings to the fuel line fittings.
   
2. Connect the fuel lines to the fuel filter.
   
3. Position the filter in the mounting bracket, in the same position it was during removal. Using a backup wrench, tighten the fuel lines to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
   
4. Install the fuel filter mounting screws.
   
5. Carefully lower the vehicle. Install or tighten the fuel filler cap.
   
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
   
7. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Unfasten the retaining bracket can make removal of the fuel filter easier


Either use a clean rag or compressed air to clean the surrounding areas of the filter


Use a backup wrench to disconnect the fuel line fittings from the filter


Disengage the quick-connect fittings, then remove the filter from the vehicle


In-line fuel filter mounting and related components

It sits in front of the fuel tank.

If the car stalling then the owner of the car should check on the fuel pump assembly. prepare the tools and equipment in servicing the fuel pump,the fuel lines and the fuel filters.In the fuel pump you have to locate the fuel pump,disconnect fuel lines from the fuel pump,remove fuel pump from the engine,dis-assemble fuel pump, check the diaphram for defect , replace defective parts,assemble and install the fuel pump.
In checking the fuel lines : prepare the tools or equipment in servicing the fuel lines .So that the fuel will flow freely and no abstraction within the fuel lines.locate the the fuel lines ,visual inspection on dual line for leakage, disconnect lines at fuel pump and fuel tank .use compress air to remove sediment on fuel lines,re-install fuel lines to the unit.
the fuel filters :prepare the equipment or tools in checking the fuel filters that is going to be used.So that when fuel filters is removed ,no fuel will spill on the vehicle and no parts are lost or broken.Locate fuel filter,disconnect lines at fuel filter ,observe safety practices ,If the fuel filter is dirty then you have to clean it but if it is worn out and not anymore to be used then install new fuel filter.

On these vehicles, the fuel filter is located on the fuel line to the carburetor. Special care should be taken when removing and installing the fuel filter, not to bend or distort the fuel line in any way.

1. Remove gas cap to relieve any pressure that may be present in the fuel system.
2. Remove the air cleaner bonnet assembly.
3. Using a backup wrench on the return line fitting on the top of the fuel filter, remove the fuel line with a flare nut wrench.
4. Using a backup wrench on the fuel filter inlet fitting, remove the fuel line from the fuel filter with a flare nut wrench.
5. Using a backup wrench on the fuel filter outlet fitting, loosen the fuel line and remove the fuel filter from the engine with a flare nut wrench.

To Install:

1. Apply a drop of engine oil to all the fuel line nuts and flared ends.
2. Position the fuel filter with flow arrow on the filter directed towards the fuel line going to the carburetor.
3. Finger-tighten the fittings at the fuel filter outlet, inlet and return line into the top of the filter.
4. Using a backup wrench on the fuel filter fittings, tighten the fuel lines in the following sequence:
   1. Tighten the outlet and inlet line nuts to 15-18 ft. lbs. (20.0-24.0 Nm)
   2. Tighten the nut on the return line at the top of the filter to 6-9 ft. lbs. (15-18 Nm).
5. Inspect the fuel lines and carefully adjust if they are interfering with the carburetor, air pump, or fuel filter housing.
6. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks at all the connections. Retighten if necessary.
7. If removed, install the air filter bonnet assembly.
