Problems with lancer MR speedo revs and odometer

no make or model or year so here is a guess
if it is a cable driven speedo --replace the inner cable
if it is an automatic ---replace the VSS on a later car or the sender unit on an earlier model

what ever your last reading was on your odometer thats where it will start to work from. so it will be like you got a new one from like autozone. i hope thats what you wanted to know

multiple possible problems but the most likely is a defective temp sensor

loose plug or contact on the gauge cluster causes this problem common on neons you have to pull the cluster and adjust and clean the contacts , the test for this on my neon was when it when out if you hit the dash it would shake enough to make contact and work again

speedo head needs replaced

underneath the engine my advice is to take it to a mr lube and have them do the oil change and you watch so you can continue the service by yourself at the regular intervals

probably burnt or cracked circuit board on back of gauge cluster

On my Bitsasushi Lancer CE 2000 i found a Hairline crack on Vinyl PCP about 6 o'clock when viewing Cluster right way up at rear where Vinyl circuit folds over under plastic Tabs, looks like power supply to Warning Lights, i just Spent 5 mins scraping Blue Vinyl to reveal Crack a Dab of Solder a Dollop of clear Laquer(Naily-Polish) inserted Cluster

I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2000 LANCER MY DASH WOULD WORK THEN ALL INSTRUMENTS WOULD NOT WORK INDICATORS LIGHTS WORKED IT WAS WEIRD AFTER 3 MONTHS GOING TO AUTO ELECTRICIANS MECHANIC ANYONE REALLY IT WAS FIXED ON FRIDAY 11TH DEC 2009 !!!!
I TOOK IT TO A PLACE CALLED ADVANCED AUTO INSTRUMENTS IN REVESBY SYDNEY PH9792 7399
WHEN I CALLED THEY NEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR BEFORE I TOLD HIM.
HE SAID IT IS A FAULT WITH THE LANCERS AND THEY ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED BUT OF COURSE THEY DID NOT BASTARDS
ON MY RECEIPT IT SAYS REMOVE AND REFIT CLUSTER FROM MITSUBISHI LANCER REPAIRED SPEEDO CIRCUIT BOARD AS REQUIRED CAUSING ALL GAUGES TO STOP WORKING $135.OO ONLY I AM OVER THE MOON

i had the same problem on my g/f's 2000 lancer GLXi, (with tacho),
i fixed the problem by putting a jump wire on the back of the instrument cluster,
the fault was in the wiring to the tacho part & i drew up my own wiring diagrams for the cluster unit,
then traced the fault,
looking @ the back of the cluster unit, the top right hand screw for the speedometer,,, follow the track on the circuit-board, there is a link wire UNDER the board (there is a dotted line on top where it goes, i think its the left 1,,, there is 2) this track then goes to the bottom left screw on the tacho,,,
i soldered a small gauge wire from the bottom of the link solder joint (MAKE SURE ITS THE CORRECT LINK, THERE IS 2 SIDE BY SIDE) to the bottom right track on the vertical plug socket (its common pos for the warning lights) this is where the "MIRAGE" & other "CE LANCER" (without tacho) gets its speedometer & gauges power from,
