It won't hurt to jump sire to drive, It is designed to pump all time when the engine is running. The only problem is the pump should not be on if engine is not running since it is designed that way to prevent a fire while pump continues on once engine is stops in a car accident. There is a control device to immobilize the fuel pump, if there is no speed sensor signal from the crankshaft. This needs to be located and fixed.

Maybe you need to test the (pcm) power relay, it controls the fuel pump relay. Once the key is turned on the pcm will initialize the power relay, it in turn will turn on the fuel relay for 2 seconds to prime the fuel rail prior to starting. Since the pump runs continuosly, it means the pcm isnt properly grounding the ckt or the relay is faulty.

2008 Ford ranger Won't start or crank at key switch. Any suggestions?

Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. The diagram is for starter motor. Not only check the fuses, use a test light and check voltage on fuse circuits. You have a starter relay, You could, for testing, unplug the relay, use proper jumper wire on load side of relay, the load side is terminal 87 and 30. It should crank the engine. If you try that make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set.
Your security system says, starter motor disable. By using the jumper, your bypassing that for testing. I don't know what testing you've done?

Truck is not getting fuel. Cannot hear fuel pump come on.

you can disconnect the fuel line to see if the pump is working which it sounds like it is not. Check your wires for the proper voltage . its probably the pump.

1999 ranger wont start

If that was my vehicle I would not have changed one part

I would have gotten out my wiring diagrams & walked thru a
logical sequence of testing what I had & didn't have, as far
as crank sensor output,fuel pressure,injector pulse,etc

Seeing a how pcm's seldom fail ,your just throwing parts at it
& not testing a thing

You need the wiring diagrams to see & learn how the various
systems work

You can actually trigger injectors, coils, relays, etc if you can
use diagrams, test light, meter & jumper wires properly, otherwise
you need professional help

I have an 89 ford ranger that i cant get the fuel pump to run. i jumperd after the relay and from after the relay the pump runs. i cant get tghe relay to work at all and i even put a new one on.

Hi, if the car runs with the jumper wire, maybe the wire from the ECU is bad. The pump is powered by the 30 amp fuse #1 in the box under the hood. The relay coil is powered by the EEC power relay, and receives it's ground connection from the ECU. If fuse 1 is good, odds are the relay is not getting the ground signal. You can verify this by connecting a test light to the positive battery terminal and probing the relay socket. The pump terminal will dimly light the test light, and when the key is on the ground signal from the ECU should make the light bright. If you don't get this light, either the ECU is not turning the pump on, or the wire from the ECU is bad. Going back to my first question--does the car run with the jumper? If yes, I would guess the wire is bad. If no, I would say there is a reason the ECU is not trying to turn on the pump--like maybe a security system or safety interlock. An easy way to force the relay to come on is to cut the tan/light green wire from the ECU and ground the side that goes to the relay. The pump will run when the key is on, but the ECU will noit be able to shut it off. Please let me know if you have questions.

1997 Ford F150 Electric Fuel Pump will npt pump

Did you check the fuel inertia switch in the passenger side kick panel ?

The fuel pump is powered :
the fuse to the fuel pump relay.
The fuel pump relay to the fuel inertia switch
The fuel inertia switch to the fuel pump itself.

At the fuel inertia switch in the kick panel, power from the relay is the Dark Green w/ Yellow stripe wire and the pink w/ black stripe wire is the power. from the fuel inertia switch to the fuel pump.

If you jumper the fuel pump relay, you should hear it run. If not pull the fuel pump relay, and check the pins in the relay socket, pin 30 should be the power from the fuse.

50b0c31.jpg

If you have power at pin #30, jumper the relay socket as shown with the red line above, and check the dark green w/ yellow stripe wire at the fuel inertia switch for power.
Press the button on the top of the fuel inertia switch, and check for power leaving the fuel inertia switch on the pink w/ black stripe wire.

This is tests good, check for power at the fuel pump, same pink w/ black stripe wire.
Fuel inertia switch info is in the owners manual, If you did not get an owners manual with your truck ( purchased used ), you can download one from Ford :
