2003 winstar having problem with heat... changed thermostat, added antifreeze. fan works but makes a noise when the heat control turned to cold or shut down
Mine has the same problem but we've checked the temperature control door and it's working fine. What else could be causing this?Mine has the same problem but we've checked the temperature control door and it's working fine. What else could be causing this?
Check the operation of the temperature control door. It is located in the center of the dash behind the radio. Look up between the gas pedal and heater case. It is white in color Move the temp knob while watching the actuator. If it is clicking it is bad. Good luck.
Testimonial: "hey thanks for the help, got the part took a bit to get in there everything kind of tight but we finally have heat...good job and thanks again"

Check the heater hoses for warmth at the heater core. Some designs do not use a waterflow valve, but instead always have heater core flow and use the air flaps to regulate heat.
Now there is a difference in some thermostats and the housings. Barely noticeable are the locking tabs inside the housing and on the thermostat ring. If you have this setup and the thermostat is not locked in place, you could get some bypass around the thermostat.
If you have an electric cooling fan, the Relay may be stuck, keeping the electric cooling fan running when it should not. This would overcool the engine.
The Engine Temp. sensor is bad. it is under the intake manifold. if there is a miss also check under the coils over the spark plugs. If there is Coolant in the spark plug holes .then the intake gasket is leaking. The intake manifold needs to come off to change the coolant sensor. When off look for corrosion on the cylinder head at the coolant port. If there is corrsion then the cylinder head must be replaced.
Most likely the blend door actuator. Do you hear clicking behind the dash? If so that's the problem. Excellent video on youtube goes throught the whole process, about 30- 40 mins to fix.
maybe there is a crack in the hose and air is getting in and heats up the water and anti freeze you should buy a new radiator hose that should fix the problem
check your water pump out it might still be working but not hard not enough to circulate and coolant to keep engine cool. Or If you had your engine flushed you might want to change the thermostat. hope this helps you out good luck
Potential causes:
Low coolant- fix by adding coolant
Thermostat stuck closed- would also cause engine to overheat
Thermostat stuck open- would eventually blow at least luke warm air
Heater core plugged- Get it backflushed or replace it
These are the most common causes
Since you added coolant, now it is time to check the fans. If the fans do come on, than your thermostat needs to be replaced, Should be done every 4 years anyways.
