To lock the car (1999 Honda Civic EX), all the four doors work fine. But to unlock the car, when I push up the master door lock switch in the driver side door, all the other three passenger doors can be unlocked successfully except for the driver side door. The lock tab in the driver side door seem to try to go up (I could hear a sound along with the movement) but fail to go all the way up. So I have to push up the lock tab manually to unlock the driver side door. Remote transmitter cannot open the door either (I can see the lock tab in the driver side door have a movement along with a sound but eventually fail to go all the way up when I push the unlock button in the remote transmitter).
The solenoid may be weak, or it can be lubed. you will need to remove the door panel and see how it works, and try to lube it, or see if there is any binding.

Most likely the latch itself has failed. Open the door panel and first check to see if unlock signal is getting to latch connector. If yes, replace latch. If no signal, the problem is more likely in the control module.
OK - the master switch is the switch panel on the drivers door that controls every lock and window of the car.
If you are pressing LOCK and all the doors LOCK except the driver's door - the Locking Actuator's Solonoid has failed.
You cannot replace just the solenoid - the entire thing is replaced as a unit.
It looks similar to THIS....

I have the same problem. The battery in the remote was replaced, still cannot operate lock. I can operate the balance of the door locks from the inside, except for the drivers side. I manual have to push or pull the door lock.
There is a Plug between the door and engine bay, it accessible through the speaker hole, but it comes loose so all prongs are not connected, thats why it works partially. should be an easy push to get em working.
hey The lock cylinder is held in by the chrome on the outside in the cylinder
where the key goes in to turn it. from the inside if the door - the outer piece
of the chrome (the ring) has a couple of 'fingers' that help hold it on - push
it off from the inside so you can reuse it. you should be able to push the
cylinder out from the door now.
