I have a 1996 Dodge Neon with a 2.0 SOHC and yesterday when driving home I heard a noise like a belt slipping and then water was running out from under my car any ideas on what happened?

I recently had 2 motor mounts on my 2005 dodge neon replaced. After I got my car back, I noticed it was making a weird noise, can't quite describe it, just knew that I hadn't heard it before. Then...

I also had my engine mounts replaced on my 2005 Dodge Neon. I have the same sound going on right now. When I spoke to a Auto Parts guy, he looked at it and said it was my tension-er pulley, and that when it runs out of grease it is a screeching noise and will be metal on metal. If you are looking at the front side of your car at the hood. It is the belt and pulley's that are on the left of the engine. (other side of battery). The tension-er pulley is the almost triangle looking piece located behind the back side of the belt.

They belt not being tight enough could also be why when I start my car, it seems to be rough starting.

I plan on getting this fixed ASAP. Perhaps your's went out and is now why the difficult steering.

I know this is not a solution, but it might help.

1994 Dodge Caravan Serpentine fan belt will slip off pulleys if a little water is applied. All pulleys have been tested without noise. At start up and while driving a grinding noise is heard-like ball...

Take a good look at the tensioner pulley (the one with the spring) when the van isn't running. You'll notice that the belt is on the very outside edge of the pulley. Once you add water (or hit a puddle) the belt will slip off that pulley. The tensioner arm is worn and needs to be replaced. Since it's worn (the spring has become weak) it's not aligned right and is acting like a cone shaped pulley. As soon as it gets wet it wants to walk off the end.

If you take the belt off there should be a noticable line (paint worn off) on the pulley where it used to ride. Or you can look at it nearest the engine with the belt on and you should see a shiny area where it used to ride.

Hope that helps. Thanks for using FixYa.
