I have a 1989 accord lxi with 130000mi. the idle started fluctuating from 700-1600 rpm when the engine is warm and has been driven a while, sometimes i can get it to stop by reving the engine. i cleaned the iacv with brake cleaner but do not know if that fixed the problem because it is intermittent. after cleaning the iacv it seemed to idle more smoothly until i backed down the driveway and turned the wheel, the idle dropped to about 500 and almost stalled. whenever i turn the wheel or turn the fan on the idle drops, evan the brake pedal slows the idle. thank you for any help

Generally cleaning the idle air control valve does not fix the problem, because the dirt or carbon deposits causing the problem is not were you can see it. It usually is in the valve stem and housing and you cant get it clean like it needs to be. Replace your idle air control valve and this will fix your problem

This is common on the older hondas, the idle goes up and down, this is caused by a couple of things, you may have low coolant or a bad idle air control valve, the last thing it may be is the power steering preasure switch, this switch is the most common, when you turn the wheel the switch is actived to raise the idle . sometimes that switch shorts out and cause the problem you are having, this switch is located on the powersteering hose, unplug the connector and if the idle stops going crazy then thats the problem.

My 89 honda accord lxi with the 2.0 won't idle correctly, it idles up and down and when you first start it up in the morning it idles about 2500 rpm or higher.

air in the IACV (idle air control valve) coolant line - air bubbles in the coolant will confuse the iacv into incorrect idle settings.....even when hot, and a fault in this unit will do the same thing, very very common fault in a honda.

1989 honda accord lxi fi oil light

Sounds like there is an oil pressure problem. Now this can be due to several factors. 1. low oil level in car
2. bad oil pump
3.bad oil pressure switch /sending unit
4. last but not least check oil filter and make sure its not clogged.
worn engine main/connecting rod bearings.
have pressure checked with a manual guage at oil pressure switch for the correct pressure. If that's good then the switch is bad and problem solved.
if it low then you will have to check pump and bearings. Contact if you need more help and thanks for using FIX YA

89 Accord LXI Idle problems

It's fuel infected and it has a vacuum leak, most likely a PCV valve that is stuck open, I've seen a few now. Replace the PCV valve 1st, if that doesn't fix it, start looking for a hose that has come off.

Honda Accord 1991 idles high then low

)The fact that thge engine idle fluctuates when it is cold indicates that the Fast Idle THermo Valve is out of adjustment.
This valve is located ot the front of the intake manifold on the driver's side just below the accelerator cable. To adjust it, wait until the engine is cold (best to do it first thing in the morning).
Remove the two screws holding the cover on and start the engine. There is a brass needle sticking up through a plastic ring that has two slots in it. With the engine idle fluctuating, use a thin flat blade screwdriver to SLOWLY turn the ring CLOCKWISE
until the idle stabilizes. Once done. put the cover back on withg the two screws and you should be done.
