2007 Hybred Camry has developed a whine

I noticed a increased noise while driving my wife's car. I do not drive car very often but I remember it being very quite to drive. The whine is very noticable at 40 or 50mph especially when coasting. A whine that sounds like it is coming up from rear of the car. The pitch of the whine changes with the speed of the car and it does not change as the car goes from battery or engine or both modes Car has 59,000. Dealer says most likey tires. Had tires checked out for problems and re balanced. No difference in noise.

Recently developed a whinning when I first start to move

Where is the whining noise actually coming from .. engine/gearbox or elsewhere?
A whining/screeching noise could be a drive belt .. such as the belt that drives the alternator.

On a manual car it could be the clutch bearing making the noise until it warms up. Does the clutch make a noise when you depress the pedal? That's the thrust bearing .. the bearing that operates the clutch.

I don't think you have too much to worry about. If you had engine trouble there would be knocks, rumbles and strange noises at all speeds.

A whining noise is usually associated with something spinning/turning .. such as a pulley/idler on a drive belt or a bearing alternator.

Put your mind at rest - get a mobile mechanic's opinion.

2006 tacoma whining noise

I never suggest flushing a trans

Just remove the pan & clean

If you want most of the fluid out,
drive it a week or so then drain again.

I suspect the noise is the trans pump,
but don't know exactly how any dirt sediment
flushed into it would cause a noise

I had the same problem. You can get a new wheel bearing for about $50 (if I remember right) from Advance or some similar auto parts store. Mine was seized up and had to be cut off.

Whining from engine when in gear

Just a thought- remove the oil filler cap when the whine is present - (this checks if PCV valve is faulty, causing high crankcase vacuum, which in turn causes a whistling/whine noise as air leaks past engine oil seals). Worth a check.

Try listening with a short piece of hose pipe to locate immediate area/source of noise.
