Idles very rough, when i come to a stop it reves up and then stalls but does not completely shut off
Hi i have one of these and have fixed almost every issue whith it that i am hearing about on this site, there is a vacume operated idle control just at the back of the engine on top drivers side this tends to carbon up just tap this and see if it makes a different while running mine was carboned up i took this of sprayed it with brake clean an has worked fine since.
Here's something you can try...
Find the vacuum hose leading from the engine to the brake booster, which is behind the master cylinder. Disconnect the hose from the engine, and cap off the vacuum port on the engine using a small piece of hose with a bolt stuck in the other end to seal it.
Then, start the car, and go for a road test. Remember, the brakes will not have any power assist (it will be like manual brakes) so increased pedal effort will be required to stop the vehicle.
If the problem clears up, there is a vacuum leak in the booster, or in the hose leading to the booster, or a defective check valve could be the culprit. If the problem still exists, there could be an engine vacuum leak, or the IAC valve may be sticking due to carbon deposits.
Good luck, hope this helps!
Check/replace the PCV valve, and its associated connection vacuum hose for deterioration and leaks.
Check for any other vacuum leaks on the air intake system.
