Hi Maldon,

I haven't heard the noise, but it's usually the belt. Check its tension, check it for frays or wear.

No filter. If the pump it going out, the reservoir and pump are a single unit and need to be replaced as such.

Best regards

Mike

Ok first off i would flush out the old fluid and put new in there is no need to jump right into replacing parts just yet, there is no filter on the power steering system so all that you can do is have it flushed first, its the cheaper alternitive to replacing a pump
if that does not fix the noise then the pump is the next step... and no i would not do this at home it takes a flush machine to flush the power steering out youwill damage the unit if you try and do it at home.

My chevy cruze 2013 power steering is locked. They key turns and can start the car, but the steering wheel remains locked

Can you take the vehicle out of park and put it into gear? If so, move the car a bit forward or backward and see if the steering unlocks. If so, it was probably parked in a manner that had the steering wheel stressed against a turn.

The hum is most likely something to do with power steering system. Have dealer check power steering system mainly the pump and rack & pinion. The dealer either ripped you off or is just guessing

Replace the serpentine belt or the tensioner. Slight possibility that it could be the power steering pump.

2003 BMW 325i will start but making noise

It might be a faulty power steering pump. Try checking the level of the power steering fluid. It is probably best you have your power steering system checked by a mechanic.

Does the noise occur only when the vehicle is moving?

Try moving the steering wheel from side to side, while stationary (but don't do it too often, or you might damage something). If the noise is still present when the car is stationary, then it probably is the power steering system.

If the noise only occurs while the vehicle is moving, it could be a problem with the differential/final drive, or even wheel bearings.

Fluid Leaks in Hemi 5.7L Vehicles

If your car steering is groaning chances are you need the power steering pump repaced. Open the hood and look for fresh moisture and you can usualy trace it back to the leak.
Or take a large piece of card board and park the front of your car on it, trace around the front wheels and let it set unitl enough fluid is gatthered to identify color and texture, then take your car along with the cardboard to a service station you trust

Power steering pump

Yes in most cases the pump rotor vanes cause this noise, there are additives that can help like one made by Lucas Oil, but if it is really whinning then that will be a watse of money, if you end up putting on a rebuilt pump make sure to flush all the old fluid out or the pump you just spent your hard earned money on will get noisey to.
