I really think you should go to www.reliable-store.com they have got books on every vehicle and also how to service/repair it, parts info, wiring diagrams, electrical diagrams, fuse diagrams, error codes, etc everything
Instructions: 1. Press and hold button [A] in the picture below.
2. Switch ignition ON. 3. The letters "SERVICE" will appear in the trip recorder display. 4. Release button [A]. 5. Turn the button [B] to the left for approximately 2 seconds to reset the display.
I had this happen with a different vehicle. "My" issue was the security system. When I disconnected the wires going into the doors, it tripped the security system into the ignition lockout mode. I had to reset the computer (free and it only takes a few minutes). Mine was able to be reset with one of the code readers from O'Reilly Auto Parts which they will let you use for free. Some vehicles have a reset button built in. If you have a security system on your VW, first make sure all wires were reconnected and not broken during the installation of the doors. If everything checks out ok, then give your local VW dealer a call and ask to speak to someone in the service department. As the service person if there is a security system reset button anywhere on your car.

This is a mileage interval light that trips every 3,000 to 5,000 miles that indicates an oil change is necessary. You do not need a special tool to change your oil, nor do you need to bring the car in to the dealer. 1. Sit in the driver's seat of the Passat and close all the doors. 2. Position the trip/odometer button to display the odometer mileage reading, then hold it down with the forefinger on your left hand. 3. Turn the ignition key to the "key-on/engine-off" position to turn on all the power options for the Passat without actually starting the engine. At this point, a service indicator light will display (in the form of a wrench). 4. Press the minute adjustment button on the clock (or turn the knob clockwise on European manufactured Passats) and release the trip/odometer button. Good luck and thank you using Fixya
With the Ignition Turned off, Look on the instrument display, Hold the right trip button. While holding the button Turn ignition on. The display read service, While still holding the trip button turn the left clock adjustment arm to the right or if you were adjusting the minutes on the clock, Release both then turn ignition off then on. I have used this trick myself.
Hope this helps.
