My 1996 Nissan 200SX battery light indicator on dash board stays on while the car is running. It doesn't run the battery down, and it has been lite for sometime. What causes it to say on.
This is usually caused by a faulty alternator.
It stays on because the alternator is not generating sufficient voltage on the control winding to extinguish it.
Check battery terminal voltage while motor running with headlights on or blower fan running.
Terminal voltage should be approx 14.5V.
Ensure alternator and engine are properly connected to ground and the battery negative terminal.
The a alternator could be going bad or you battery is getting week.
