Check/follow cables running from throttle linkage for seized at, or to, transmission linkage. Lube them up good and make sure all move freely. Be sure to use all safety precautions while under there, such as emergency brake, in park, engine off, and block the wheels. It may help have someone, push accelerator (engine off) while your under there so you can see and understand how it works and where to lube.

Takes time shifting, and won't shift into high gear unless you gas on it.

May check fluid level and if low would more than likely indicate a leak. could also be a sensor that controls the shifting. does check engine light come on and if so,this could indicate a bad sensor.

My 1985 grand Marquis won't start I can pour gas

Take the gas filter off. Should be located near the front of the carbeurator, take off the air cleaner and look for it, it takes 2 wrenches to take it off, a little gas may spill out but not much and replace it, however there is a strong possibility that he gas pump is out if the filter is fine. Hope this helps

I would start by making sure the Trans Fluid level is correct. If the level is good, it sounds like your internal pressures are leaking down, and that is why it slips out of gear. Which means you have internal trans issue which would require the trans to be most likely removed and repaired.

Thanks Jay!
