Where is the fuel filter located in 1984 Chevrolet Celebrity V6

What is the fuel pressure reading now? Has the distributor ignition rotor ever been replaced? They burn through and cause all kinds of problems. Also this could be spark plug wires leaking or shorting out to the engine block. I would take a very close look at the ignition systems condition.

The fuel pump is located underneath the drivers side door toward the back

yes, the four cylinder is TBI (throttle body injected0, the V6 is mulyi-port injected.

Look near the fuel tank

84 celibrity has a carborater and the filter is in the carb. where the fuel line connects to it. Follow this metal line down past the timing cover and the other end screws into the fuel pump thats connected to the side of the engine block near the oil pann gasket on the belt drive end of the engine it has some brackets surounding it for the power steering pump and it's hard to get to and lots of other stuff needs to be removed to get to it. When their bad they leak oil too and sometimes they leak gas into the oil.

The fuel filter should be inline just after the fuel tank , look under chasis next to but in front of the fuel tank , should be in a clamp bolted to the frame or unibody subframe in your case ... Hope this helps...
