What would cause my 91 lincon towncar surge then die ?

Is the car warmed up or cold when this happens? Are you driving or sitting in park? Low speed or highway speed?

We need more info to help out. My best guess at this point and it's a longshot guess is throttle position sensor being faulty.

My 98 lincoln towncar is vibrating in park and while driving. It will be fine for a while then it starts shaking after being stopped at a light or something. What could be wrong?

I'm willing to bet it has something to do with your radiator fan. If i recall correctly this is clutch driven to control speed and if that clutch is going bad when the car warms up and it calls for the fan to engage then you are experiencing the vibration.

Mech or Elec overdrive

According to Haynes Auto Repair Manual, section on automatic transmissions, the 1994 Towncar has the AODE transmission
Baumann Electronic Controls website
URL: http://www.becontrols.com/tech/ch1alphabet.htm
has following:
The Automatic Overdrive (AOD) transmission was introduced in 1980 as Ford's first four-speed automatic overdrive transmission.
The AOD-E transmission is essentially a beefed-up electronically-controlled version of the AOD.
If this doesn't answer your question, you might troll around the website.
