Low beams not working. Brights, fog, turn, and brake lights all fine. Checked fuses under hood, all fine. Have not yet checked bulbs. Any ideas why both would stop working at the same time?
Found the answer to this problem It is a relay in the fuse box under the hood. Part#15016745. Black, square relay. Dealership told me it's a common thing to have them go bad once in a while. You can get them from a parts store, but most do not stock. Unless you can go a week without headlights, I suggest biting the bulet like I di, and going to your dealership to purchase. Mine cost me $43, but it varies by dealership. Just buy and install yourself.Found the answer to this problem It is a relay in the fuse box under the hood. Part#15016745. Black, square relay. Check the wiring on that light. Also check the bulb with a couple of wires to the battery, or swap the bulb left to right to make sure the new bulb is okay.
If both low beams don't work, check for a low-beam fuse. Sometimes they hide them under the hood. If it's just one low beam, it may be the plug on the bulb or wiring to the bulb, even a bad ground wire to the bad bulb. Look for crispy wires or dark bulb terminals. Sometimes the terminals or plug will have green stuff on it, similar to what you find on the (+) terminal of the battery. They sell bulb terminal grease to help prevent this. Toodles.
It happened to me, both low beam filaments in both new at same time (happens a lot so I'm told) The earths are in a stoopid place under the left headlight.
If the lights are switched then the switch controls a rely all lights are switched on bmw. Can use fog lights temporarily. Find rely test with continuity meter when on, disconnect lights first, then turn on lights switch, check for 12v at light bulb terms, if 12v then bulbs bad, if not relay is bad, test with continuity meter, rely should read 0 ohms when lights switched on, infinite open circuit when switched off. If lights work in manual switch pos then solar sensor bad.
Is this both the high beams and low beams that do not work ?
If you checked all 3 fuses with a meter ( with the headlamp in Low position for both low beam fuses or in high for the high beam fuse ), the next items to test are the MFS ( MultiFunction Switch ) and the main headlamp switch ( test not look at it ).
It sounds to me that if you checked all the fuses and they are fine that it could be the headlight switch needs to be replaced or very uncommon but possible that both low beam bulbs blew at the same time and need replacement.
