Light on gas gauge on dash board not lighting up --2006 dodge grand caravan. Sometimes it lights right up and other times it takes a while.. Short in something???

Check that the fuse is not blown and that there is no wiring fault. Otherwise check that the lights are not blown as well, and look at the following YT video to illustrate the removal of the light:
Yes it is a loose wire or plug. Next time it happens try hitting/smacking the top of the dash, or the steering column, ect. to try at least to located where the problem might be. This works sometimes. Electrical issues can be a nightmare. There is no quick and easy fix. I do alot of electrical and it can take 15 minutes (if your lucky) a whole day if your not. Most jobs I do take an average of 4 to 5 hours.

No just a loose connection in the dash.

IF you are lucky it may be the main plug not seated into the dash board. Or a bad ire in that connector.
you need to go over your entire wiring harness, under the hood and inside the dash. Start with the ground wire on the battery and work your way inside. It sounds like there is a loose ground wire somewhere
remove the black trim around the cluster.. then remove the 4 srews that hold the cluster in the dash.. the bulb will twist out of the back of the cluster main board. the new one will just twist back in and then re-install the cluster to dash and then the bezel
