Sounds like its not getting its initial shot of fuel to start. thier is either one or two sensors that control that. go to your local auto parts store and they can tell you more and get the right part.

could it be your crank sensor?
having a similar problem with a dakota. dodge tells me it may be the dist, but seeing as how you replaced it with a new one it could be that the sensor needs replacing

I have a 95 s10 4.3 which starts nd runs fines

spider injection is a common problem with these vehicles, is it consuming gas more than usual, is the oil smelling like gas? The spider is located under the upper intake plenem. There is also a fuel pressure regulator connected to the spider assembly that may be faulty.

I have a 1998 chevy silverado when trying to start it it acts like its out of gas and just keeps cranking and will not start. i tryed spraying starting fluid it carb thinking it might be fule pump but...

Check to see if it has spark. It may be having a problem with the distributor. If you have put fuel to it to no avail, then you probably dont have spark. Could be the cap / rotor, the coil, the pickup in the distributor, or power going to the coil or distributor. Check for spark and if you dont have any, make sure you have power to the coil / distributor. If you do then try a new coil cap and rotor. Hardest part would be the pickup in the distributor if thats bad.
