The wrench light is NOT the check engine light! It is a failsafe warning light and usually when it comes on there is a problem with the "fly by wire" throttle. The wrench light will not be caused by leaving the gas cap loose. You could try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then reconnecting. If this is no help you have no other choice but to take it in for service.

That is your check engine light. go to any auto parts store and they will help you scan it free of charge. Or you can take it to Ford and they will charge you $100. ON a car that new, you probably didnt get your gas cap on good. Did you just fill up with gas?

I have a 2005 ford mustang and i am on a trip to arkansas.two different lights came on.one looked like a small wrench an the other was the check engine.the car cut off while we were running 65 on...
the wrench light means there is-or-was a problem with the elctronic throttle control.
the is no mechanical throttle cable on this engine, it is "fly by wire" so to speak.
ussually when this happens, the computer will not allow anything over idle until the next key cycle and if it sees the problem again, it will only allow idle.
a lot of times this is a throttle position sensor concern or even the thottle actuator itself.
make sure the air filter and housing is claen and secure, installed properly.
you can try to spray some choke cleaner in the thyottle body itself and possibly clean some carbon buts thats probably not it.
most likely you will need a new throttle body assembly..... it comes with a new throttle position sensor on it. good luck
