Check engine light went on half way through a 200 km (120 miles) trip. light stayed on, then I transmission started shifting gears not as smoothly (in fact the kids thought we were rear-ended), especially from 1st to 2nd. no fluid leaks, the car is a 2006 Corolla with automatic transmission and slightly less than 50,000 km (30,000 miles), very thoroughly maintained according to manufaturer's schedule. Any ideas as to what's causing this?
It should still be under warrenty Take it to the shop for repairs It is a transmisson problem but many things can cause the transmisson not to shift correctly. Call your service department and ask if you should drive it in or have it towed and do not drive till you have it figured out. If you have a warrenty and continue to drive it will void your warrenty.
