I want to hook up my XM radio receiver to tun off with the ignition switch. I purchased a lighter plug kit to wire into the ignition switch, but after pulling fuse panel I'm not sure what wire color to tap into. Would like to tap off of the radio / amp wire if possible or an open spare fuse position that goes through the ignition. What wire color off of the fuse panel should I tap into ?

Using a test light or meter locate a fuse that does not have power when the switch is off - xm should require only 5 amp fuse - no more than 10 - pull fuse to test which side the power is coming in and hook into load side of fuse-

Change radio setup to scan frequency from evry 200khz to evry 50khz

  1. Radio ON, tune to the XM channel 0 and record the radio ID. The radio ID will be required for activation of the new receiver.
  2. Call XM radio to deactivate the faulty receiver and activate the new receiver.

I'm trying to install a new stereo and i have all the wires on the wiring kit done but the acc wire. where does this go? i was told by someone to hook it to the cig wire or the ignition wire. how do you do...

you can tap into any 12 volt accessory wire right off of the fuse box, look for the cigarette lighter fuse and follow the wire from there. also -- if you removed a radio from the car before the install of the new radio there should be a accessory wire that ran to that one -- I would use that.

Is their anyway to get the power socket, cigarette lighter kind, to turn off when i turn off the car?

There are two ways of going about it. The best way to do it would be to use a relay. Cut the 12v+ wire going to the cigarette lighter, hook one side up to terminal 87 and the other side to 30 of the relay. Ground pin 85 and hook up pin 86 to a switched ignition wire. Doesn't matter too much which ignition switched wire you use. The radio is near by and has a switched ignition wire you can tap off of. The relay draws very little current so it won't affect the other circuit. Doing it this way keeps the power to the cigarette lighter on the original circuit, but switches it on when the ignition is on. You can purchase an automotive relay like the one pictured at radio shack or any auto supply store for a few bucks.

Cigarette lighter fuse blows out too often, which one is it I changed all the 20A fuses, but cannot figure out which one it is beyond this I use the lighter to power my satelite radio

its not a 20 amp fuse, its a 5amp fuse, I had an XM Roady and its the plug they use on the radios power supply plug, they are cheap, buy a new cig lighter plug and wire it to the XM Radio power supply plug, and it will cure your problem

I want to hook up an amp and speakers to my 2008

The remote wire is an accessory power source, like the ACC line from your radio. (usually the red one). Can also be hooked into anything that has 12v when the ignition is on, like a powered antenna.

Radio Not Working

There are 3 fuses in the interior fuse panel that feeds radio.
no. 11(10amp) is ignition switch power to the radio it comes into radio on the TN/LB wire.
no. 27 (10amp) is hot at all times and comes in on OG/LG wire.
no. 12 (5amp) is hot in run or accessory and comes in on YE/BK wire.
Check these with 12V test light at fuse and at radio connector.

2005 Honda CR-V won't go to XM radio.

"XM Ready" means that you have to have a satelite radio installed in order to have XM service. I went through this when buying my 2005 CR-V and thought that all I needed was to set up the service. If you have an XM receiver installed you can controll it on your Honda factory radio. It is very misleading.

Most of the New Aftermarket Stereo's now have the Connections for Sirius and XM Built in so you just need the Sat. Install Box. Really Simple. If you want to go a Cheaper Route Just Purchase the XM or Sirius Reciever and Mounting kit for the Dash or Windshield and It will play through an Empty FM Station on the Radio Via the FM Transmitter. Got one in all of my Vehicles and they work Great!
