Our ’94 Toyota 4runner has developed vibration issues. The vibration is very evident at speeds above 55mph but I believe it is there at speeds below 55mph, just not noticeable.
Things we’ve done to chase down the problem: Took it to an Independent Toyota Shop, they road tested it. Said it is not a front end or tire related problem but said all evidence pointed to the driveline.
Driveline shop said when we had the rear seal replace someone tightened done the crush ring too much. Got the U-joints and driveline balanced, didn’t solve the problem. Next we got the rear end checked out and had the bearings replaced. The driveline shop is/was so frustrated with the situation; they replaced the stock Toyota shaft and put in a new yolk.
All the above has helped the original problem to some degree but the vibration is still there? Anybody have any other ideas? Everyone we’ve talked to is stumped.
You have a tire that is out of round. Jack up the tires about 1/2 inch off the ground place a pencil at the edge of the tire and while turning the tire look at the bottom of the tire and between the ground watch to see if tire goes up and down or wobbles side to side as you turn the tire. If tire is out of round it will cuase this problem. Also check you beargins on the fron wheels to see if they are loose. to do this grasp the tire at top and bottom and try wiggling the tire back and forth, if there is movement the bearings are loose or you have a bad tie rod end. However the most common overlooked problem for this car is The passenger control arm. If you need more help post here and Will give you some more do it yourself tests. This will narrow it down and save you some money.
