Hi Ian,

A 2.8l is a relatively small engine, even for a Rodeo. The mounts should be visible. Use a flash light to visually inspect them for loose fasteners, nuts, stress fractures or separations.

If it's shaking badly, chances are it's something else.

Is it doing anything else odd besides shaking?

Bring it by an auto parts store that give free OBD II code readings. These diagnostics will help pin down the cause.

Hi there I am thinking about replacing my 2001 3lt diesel trooper motor with a 87 3.3lt isuzu diesel motor what changer would need doing can I use the 3lt gearbox and the 3.1lt gearbox and engine mounts

The main problem that you will encounter is the mounting of the engine. You might end up having to customize the mounting brackets and reorder some components of the engine compartment in order for the replacement engine to mount correctly. You would have to balance the engine as well and pair up it's output with the capacity of the differentials. I think you can use the present gearbox but results are not guaranteed and it's not an easy fix.

Does my 98 Rodeo have a timing belt or a timing chain?

Hi:
You are definitely due for a timing belt if you havent done so.
Shop prices vary a lot, so I hope you have someone you trust....non the less, your 98 rodeo has a timing belt...and it is good money spent, to also replace your waterpump and tensioner too.
All of the parts can be purchased for about $125, and often the entire job can be taken care of in a shop for about $200 labor, but I would shop around a bit...
