1994 Honda Civic pushes coolant from radiator into overflow reservoir, then out overflow tube. Fairly new radiator and cap has been replaced twice since this began. Sometimes pulls coolant back into radiator when cools, sometimes not. Fans seem to work, at least on max A/C.

Very often the cause of coolant being expelled from the reservoir is due to a faulty head gasket leaking compression air into the water jackets. When the engine stops circulating the coolant, with the water pump, the bubbles collect together in the radiator as they rise to the top. Then the hot compressed air passes through the pressure relief valve (often radiator cap) and enters the reservoir, thereby blowing coolant out of the overflow tube.
Hello Michelle, my name is Michael and I too had air in the cooling system and this is how I got it out. I had to raise the front end to where the middle of the front bumper was about 40 inches. I removed the radiator cap and immediately had ton add more coolant till it was visibly full at the radiator filler neck. Make sure the cap on the overflow reservoir is on tight. Now start the car and observe the filler neck because you will probably have to add more coolant. once it is full turn on the heater to the max position and direct it to the feet and econ. you should see a lot of bubbles coming from the radiator filler neck. That is the air being purged from the system. make sure you fill with coolant as needed. Now when the t-stat opens you'll see the coolant drop from the filler neck because it's being exchanged from the engine block do not add coolant at this point. Put the radiator cap back on and remove the screw holding the overflow reservoir and raise the reservoir above the radiator and squeeze the tube to get the air out of the tube. Once the air is out and the tube is filled with coolant put the reservoir back in place and fill with coolant to the FULL mark. Shut off the engine lower vehicle and let the engine cool down and remove the radiator cap and fill with coolant till it is visibly full and replace the radiator cap. I had to do this twice but it worked and my car is operating at normal temperature and with the same stroke took care of a few other problems. Hope this helps and good luck to you.
I assume you mean that it is not pulling coolant from the overflow back into the radiator when it cools down? This will either be a blocked overflow tube, or a malfunctioning radiator cap. Pull out the overflow tube and blow through it to clean it. Replace the radiator cap.
Hi, Check the radiator cap seal. If the radiator cap is not sealed the vacuum pressure that suppose to s_uck back the coolant from reservoir will not work. Better buy/replace that radiator cap with original specs.
Check for milky oil It may help to have the radiator cleaned and flushed, and a new thermostat installed, the coolant may be going out the overflow Not certain how it ruins radiator caps, they hold about 5psi in the radiatior and let excess pressure into the overflow, then when the engine cools, allow coolant to s uck back form the overflow tank
Cracked Cylinder head or cylinder head gasket blown. Bet you filled it up with cold water when it was hot! Check your oil level, see if it is going up (water getting in) Remove the rad cap start your engine and if it blows the water out then i'm probably right.
Check ur radiator cap!
Mostly when the engines become hot, coolant goes thru the coolant reservoir and comes back to the radiator when it cools down. Damage radiator caplet the coolant goes thru the reservoir but can't siphon back the coolant to radiator , thus always overflows the reservoir and the radiator dries out from its coolant!
Check also if there is LEAKS in the bypass hoses and CAP PLUGS!

Have the same problem since last spring. Kept going low on coolant and the coolant reservoir level would go up. Tried new radiator cap, did not help. Now blowing coolant out of reservoir, head gasket is bad.
The reservoir,and,or,the tubing from the radiator,to the reservoir may have a pin hole in it,or the tubing is sucking together.Replace the tubing,and the radiator cap,and the reservoir top.See if it will work correctly.Fill reservoir,and radiator,and let it run until the cooling fans cut on,then cut the engine off.Wait about 25 minutes,and see if the reservoir will drop in level,if so,repeat this process until the vehicles cooling system is normal.Make sure the cooling fans are coming on,and going off,with the ac off.If the cooling fans are coming on,then that is good,but,they must go off by them selves,or the cooling system is not cooling down.
