Rotors are easy to replace, but I doubt that's the problem. What you need to do is jack up the car, take the wheel off, and see exactly what is scraping. It could be something simple like the splash shield touching the rotor. This is easy to bend back--10 minutes, problem solved. Sometimes, if it's on a drum brake, rust will build up on the drum to the point of scraping the back plate. Again, easy to solve by knocking the rust plates off the drum. OK?
If its a lite squeel and goes away when brakes are applied. Have you had front brakes put on recently. If you have and the rotors were not replaced and turned. Alot of mechanics don't do the final cross hatching on the rotors when they are done turning. This will barke in the pads wrong and cause this even with expensive pads. It will cause premature glazing and have a squeel that will drive you crazy.
Sensors in this vehicle pertain to the wear sensor on the front brake pad.It is a protruding metal finger on the pad itself, which will produce a "metal to metal" high pitched "scraping" squeel once pad wear permits this finger to touch. This worns you there is a minimal amount of pad thickness remaining and approaching a serious "metal to metal" condition which will wipe out rotors and more.
Sounds like the serpentine belt is slipping . Most likely you have a bad belt tensioner. Another possibility is your steering pump could be going out. Ball joints and tie rods make clunking or knocking sounds when they are bad.
You can try the bearings but I think if you take off the rear rotors and look at the emergency brakes you'll find the problem. You might want to ride the emergency brake a little in lieu of removing the rotors to confirm the problem. Also some wheel covers make noise-drive without them and see if it helps.
sounds like you need new brake pads and the rotors atleast turned down if not replaced
the pads should stop the noise and the rotors should stop the vibration/wobble
thanks wes
ps please rate me
When is the last time the brakes were replaced?
