How to adjust air fuel mixture on a 87 suzuki samuria

the CO and fuel/air mixture is not adjustable on modern cars , only on carburettors . the engine management system will ensure correct fuelling, if there is a fault with this then in most cases an engine management light will illuminate on the dash board

you have a vacuum leak some where take a can of brake clean and spray a little on the vacuum hoses and if the idle goes up then that is where the leak is

I agree... in a 90's vintage car the computers are not as adept at adjusting the fuel / air mixture for different octane fuels. Put in the higher octane fuel if you know you'll be driving the car under a heavy load.

Unfortunately, most fuel injection engines don't have an adjustable fuel/air mixture by the technician.

The fuel/air mixture is controlled by a computer.

On a stock Samurai, the Engine Control Module will cause the carb to automatically adjust for altitude.

It doesnt need rebuilding. The shifter sheet that the gear shifter sits on is worn out or not even there which allows the shifter not to operate properly.

I don't know what year you are working with, but I have an 87 that was doing the same thing. I converted the air filter to a K&N system and did away with the old filter box. The problem did not go away. I talked to a Toyota specialist and he told me in the top of the mass flow sensor there is a plug that you need to drill out. There is an adjustment screw that regulates the air mixture with the gas. It is located on top of the mass air flow sensor that connects to your air filter box.

hi you got an air leak its the air flow not the fuel that controls the speed too much fuel will cause flooding it wont start because its sucking air and eventually when it does the extra air being sucked in causes it to accelrate you need to lift your bonnet listen for signs of air being sucked in it may be a hose , or inlet manifold gaskets carb gasket it might even be the carb as it will have rubber seals diaphrams i had the mixture jet come out before and the car takes off like a rocket yates210456

Yes, Colorado is much higher in altitude. Do to higher altitude the barometric pressure is less than sea level by a long shot. Lower barometric pressure mean that less air is entering your engine. Which in turns mean that your engine is now running richer than it was at a a lower altitude. So I recommend checking you engine timing, and adjusting your carbs air/fuel mixture. yes this means that you may need to rejet. but first there is a screw on your 22r's carb that you must adjust to lean the air mixture just right. I have had a stock 22r carbortor before and never had to rejet it. i probibly should have but it ran fine at sea level and all the way to about 10000 ft. after 10000 feet i had to lean the fuel mixture to even alow the engine to run. This screw that you must turn is hidden due to toyota not wanting you to tamper with it and burn your engine to the ground by running your engine to lean. it has a metal plug on the passenger side of the carb about the size of a pencil eraser. you must drill that out and then you can adjust the air fuel mixture. Clock wise is to lean the air fuel. and Counter clock wise is to richen the air fuel mixture.A good rule of thumb is to turn the air/fuel screw all the way clock wise and then back out about 2 and 1/2 turns. That is the factory adjustment. you may only need 2 turns out. Best of luck i hope you get it running perfect. Try this adjustment first then if it still runs rich then think about rejetting.
