How do you change brake disks and pads on a golf tdi 1.9

hi to start with make sure the brake fluid reservoir filler cap is removed this is important to do!, then loosen the wheel off this is the wheel you are starting with do not take nuts all the way off, jack up car, then remove wheel, get a flat head screw driver or leaver bar then push the old pads back away from the disk ( can be hard and slow but make sure they go all the way back ) then, at the rear of the caliper there should be 2 internal allen key bolts i think these are 5mm or 7mm, undo them and then remove the caliper from its frame, hang it out the way on a piece of string or something so as not to damage the flexi pipe, on the frame that you removed the caliper there should be 2 hex bolts i think these are 17mm or 19mm, undo these and remove the frame, looking at the front of the disk itself, you should see a in-bedded phillips screw undo this ( a impact driver might be handy to do this if rusted ) and the brake disk should just pull off the hub, fitting is obviously the reverse, NOTE!!!! after refitting the pads, be sure to press the brake peddle down very slowly a bit at a time as not to create an air block in the caliper....hope this helps please vote thanks..

Changing front and back brakes on vw golf tdi 54 plate

Replacing brake pads or rotors does not need to be difficult if you have the right tools. Volkswagen and Audi rear calipers require that the piston be rotated while being pushed back into the caliper.

New golf tdi went 12 miles smells burning wheels not hot does not smell under bonnett any ideas

  1. A stuck brake caliper piston causing the brake pads to ride on the rotors while car is in motion.
  2. Improper hand brake adjustment will cause the rear caliper to hook up even if the lever is all the way down.
  3. Manual transmission operates with a semi-metallic clutch disc similar to brake pads can produce similar odor when you ride on your clutch pedal.
  4. You could also be riding on your brake pedal while you operate your vehicle.
  5. Last but not least, you might have run over plastic debris and stuck on your exhaust pipe melting in the process.
This are common sources of burning rubber which people mistaken think their tires are burning. The only way you can burn your tires is if you do wheel spins, high speed braking and locking up your wheels and setting it on fire.

How to replace rear disc pds on VW Golf 2.0 TDI 2006

Remove the wheel first.

In there you will see the brake pads.

The brake pads are held in place by the caliper. The caliper is secured with two 15 mm bolts, and two 13 mm on the opposite side.
Once you undo the caliper you should also find an apex clip on top op the pads.

Once you have done that , slide the caliper out and remove the pads.

To refit you may need to compress the caliper. You can use a clamp, but on VW I compress the caliper using a robust wooden stick as a lever inside the U shaped part.

Before putting the new brakes I use an hand file tool to mill the corners of the pad, this will increase aderence to the rotor disk.

Remember that the car will have reduced braking power when you install new pads.

Regards.

Fitting rear brake pads

Not sure if this is true for the Golf but for most cars you need a brake pad wind-back tool. Your local accessories / tool shop will probably have one.
