2002 mitsubishi galant are fans supposed to run when starting car?

The fans should run whenever the AC is on. But if it's off, the fan should only run when the computer thinks the temp is too high

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, it was overheating in july so I took the thermostat off and was able to make it home only to find out I needed to replace the radiator. so I replaced the radiator, but...

A rough check of the water pump is to pinch off the upper radiator hose with your hand while the engine is running, squeeze it as tight as you can, then release. If pump is working you should feel a surge of coolant as you release the hose.
So the fans do come on by themselves? If the coolant got hot enough when stopped, they should have come on.
You may want to have the cooling system pressure checked to see if it holds pressure.

Car run hot when aircondistion is on high, when i turn air off or down car timp gose down

I think your radiator cooling fan is not coming on when the a/c compressor kicks on. Check the cooling fan relays, low and high speed, and the fan too.

Car runs hot when air condistion is on high

Hi Curtis,

I believe, It is the time to do servicing on your cooling system/radiator together with your air condition. Your radiator and air condition condenser are so close making an impact one another. So while your air condioning running on high, its condeser will impact the radiator making your car hot.

Also need to check radiator and condenser fans for malfunction.

Cooling Fan not coming on 2002 Mitsubishi Galant

Check the fan itself for free turning--if it grinds or is hard to turn, replace the fan motor. The engine heat sensor reports temperature to the computer which turns on the relay and it turns on the fan motor. If you have A/C, turn it on--that should force the fan on all the time the car is running. If that works, then replace the sensor. If you don't have A/C, take a chance on the sensor--it's not too expensive. Wrap the threads with several turns of teflon tape when installing and don't over-tighten.

The galant will overheat if ac is not on

The temperature sensor for the radiator cooling fan is probably bad. When you turn the AC on, it overrides the sensor and the fan runs all the time while the AC compressor is engaged.
