Check electronic throttle control

While driving my 2005 Ford Expedition on the Long Island Expressway, the check electronic throttle control light came on and the car completely died. I had to coast to the side of the road with my heart in my throat the whole time. Someone is going to get seriously injuried if not killed if this continues to happen while driving the 05 Expedition. Ford really needs to address this issue.

We have been experiencing same faults on a 2005 Expedition, with engine stopping and the message "Check electronic throttle". Ifirst went to AutoZone and they read the codes. They suggested replacing thethrottle sensor, which we did, but car stopped again. We had to replace thebattery in a month and this is the fix. The battery was almost 6 years old andwhen you first start your engine, it sucks too much load and gives these faultsto the computer. It never stopped since then (3 mo already). Sometimes we useto get the message 3 times a day.

I had same problem with my 2005 Expedition. The solution for mine turned out to be a dirty throttle body. Cleaned the inside of it with rag and carb. cleaner so that the throttle plate wouldn't bind and no more problem.

Emissions light is on 2005 Ford Expedtion

Thanks for the inquiry,
I did some research and found that this error usually generates codes that both source back to the electronic throttle control on your engine. Go down to one of the major auto parts stores and they will check the codes for you usually at not charge.

Most common: [P2104-Throttle actuator control system-Forced Idle] [P2112-Throttle actuator control system-Stuck Closed]
Having not examined the vehicle, I'd suggest two things for you:
First- replace the controller, which is attaced to the throttle body with one from a salvage yard.
secondly- get some old rags and clean inside the throttle body using carb cleaner.

With luck, this should clear up your problem.

Best regards,
TF

My ford expedition 2005 has 90K miles, today while driving back home from work the check electronic throttle control light came on, the car didn't shut off but it did not respond to the gas pedal. Luckily...

Spray the Throttle Plate with CRC Throttle Body Cleaner

If you still have problems return for more ideas,
with more detail and any codes, if lights come on the

2005 ford expidition - driving and chech electronic engine throttle message comes on and I can no longer accelerate

I would check the Throttle Actuator Control Motor on the throttle body. That is what controls the position of the throttle plate opening.

The check engine throttle light came on and my vehicle wouldn't move or anything. first time this has happened. what's wrong with it and what do i need to do to fix it

Sounds like a Throttle Position Sensor. Don't let a Dealer tell you that the whole throttle body needs to go. I just looked up a Motorcraft TPS sensor yesterday for a 2006 Expedition. Amazon, free shipping $59.91. Auto parts store $65 to $75. Two T-20 Torx screws and a 10 min job.If that is your issue. Should at least put a scanner on it, to check the code that set that light. Expect more of those type of check lights as it gets older.

2005 Ford Expedition Electronic Throttle Control

Go to Autozone if the vehicle will run. Have them test the computer for codes. If not running, the TPS, Throttle Position Sensor is easy to change.
You would take off all the air filter ductwork up to the metal part on the engine. There is one big butterfly valve on this part. The TPS screws onto the metal airhorn and has 2 screws and 1 electric plug and is on the drivers side of the metal part. It is about the size of a cigarette lighter. The part slips over the slot of the butterfly shaft. Just be sure everything lines up. It is usually correct when installed.
There is some adjustment possible, but write us again for those instructions. You really should be okay the way it is. Let us know how this worked for you.

Electronic Throttle control light came on and car died

We ended up taking the vehicle to a trusted auto repair shop. The codes came up indicating a failed throttle body, most likely in the electronics. After a few more pinpoint tests, the recommendation was to replace the throttle body. The cost for this repair was just under $500. Since there is no aftermarket on this part, Genuine Ford parts were used.
