07 camry - sun visor wont stay and falls forward

The tension that holds the visor is broke and it tired to fix it by putting velcro, it falls and does not want to stay. The sad part is it is on the driver side, my passenger side seems to work fine and no issues with that.
I pulled the visor and checked it to see if there is any spring or anything. looks like there is no moving part that could be adjusted. i am going to try fixing it by gluing magnets on the visor and on the roof. From the responses, i see that it costs about $110 to replace the sun visor which I believe is not worth. I am going to shop around for a knock off from ebay or elsewhere.

I also own a 2007 Camry and am experiencing the same problem. It just happened recently for no apparent reason. It's a safety hazard and definitely an accident waiting to happen since the visor blocks your vision of the road ahead. Toyota should recall these sun visors before someome gets into an accident.

Mine is broken also. Replacing them is expensive and the new one will break after a couple of years. Seems that they are made to break by design.

Having the same problem. It appears that the tension rod retains tension it appears, but the plastic that surround the sturdy metal tensioner has broken, thus the visor can't hold tension any longer. Very disappointing, looks like I will have to purchase a new one as well. Toyota isn't doing so great these days.

i too have this problem..The dealer replaced the driver side visor a year a ago because the vehicle was still under warranty. (2008 camry) ..But now both visors are broken- they wont stay up.. The dealer is asking for $160 EACH installed!!!

  • Peter Lu Jul 26, 2011

Yes. The plastic casing is weak. It seems like a design issue. I have fixed mine and I am pretty sure it will last. Please watch my DIY video on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvPxParKy...

I am having the same exact problem kpadmana but I can't find any thing really cheap. The used ones cost about $50 and $45 to put it up. Toyota should have a recall on that since it's unsafe to drive like that and it hits on the head every time you enter the car. They will be sued eventually.

I called Piercey Toyota here in Milpitas, CA yesterday to order a new driver's side sun visor for my 2007 Camry and they told me that there is a recall so I made an appt. this morning to have it checked and they told me that both driver and passenger side visors are defective and will be replaced free of charge, some kind of extended warranty on a defective part. So if you have the same problem, contact your nearest Toyota dealer. Hope this will help.

Same here with my 2007 Camry SE. This is a poor design and now paying 160 + bucks to get it fixed from a dealer is a plain rip off by Toyota. I actually noticed this issue pretty early when I bought my vehicle, that flipping it down n back made it feel like some cheap plastic, would come off some day, and it did today... when out of warranty...sigh...

Sun visor on 2005 Nissan Murano won't stay up/falls down

go to a dealership with a screwdriver and your broken sun visor in hand. take out a nissan murano with an interior that matches yours for a test drive and perform a switch on the sun visors. install your broken visor in place of the one that works, and take the one that works out of the car that your test driving.

Problem solved, its free, and you didn't have to get creative to fix the problem. Plus, they can't blame you for a broken visor considering that they fail in these cars all the time. You're welcome!!!

Sun visor on 2006 Kia Optima has lost it's spring tension and will not stay in the upright position.

My daughter had the same problem with her visor. I put velcro on the visor to try to keep it up out of the way but after a while the velcro came lose and the visor came down again. I called KIA and talked with a technician. I was told that in order to fix the visor I would have to remove the cloth so I should be able to sew. Not a viable solution. We ended up taking her car in and had a new visor put on. It was covered under warranty. Had problems with headlights going out. Bought the replacement bulbs from NAPA. They only lasted a few months. Started purchasing the bulbs from the dealer and have not had to replace them for over a year. Have to pay a little more but it is worth not having to hassle with their replacement.

Sun visors

I just fixed this same problem on my 1993 Toyota Camry.

First, I tried velcro, but in the hot weather the glue wouldn't hold to the fabric so the fix only lasted about 6 months.

Just now I gerryrigged a black office paper clip - the big kind with the black clip attached to two big silver metal hands - to the visor and metal arm.

Magic, it's fixed, and for free.

Sun visor on driver's side won't stay up or all the way down. 2006 Sonata

This works on any visor. Obtain a small clamp as used in wiring harnesses. On the shaft end of the visor, 1/2 inch from the end, install the clamp around the visor and the shaft. Drill a hole through the visor for the clamp screw and tighten as needed. I might be a redneck, but it works!!
