Jeep Grand Cherokee straight 6 1997. My information center keeps telling me my coolant sensor is bad. I replaced the coolant sensor with two different new sensors and it still keeps beeping at me. Truck does not overheat or anything, just keeps telling me coolant sensor bad. Can anyone help me out with this? thanks so much.

You'll have to look around on some of the jeep forums for exact details on how to remove the VIC, but the problem is the #8 wire in a ribbon connector that holds the two VIC circuit boards together. One is the "brain", and the other is the display, and interface. They go together in the VIC "box" like a sandwhich, with the ribbon cable in between.

The factory that made the VICs use a wave soldering method, and the #8 pin (which is the coolant sensor ground pin- IIRC it's pink- will have a cold solder joint.

It takes about 15 minutes to get the VIC out of the car, and if you can solder, another 5 to fix the problem. I'd advise re-soldering all the connections, while you're in there.

OR, buy a used VIC off of someone on E-Bay. The problem with that is they might have the same affliction.

My 1996 jeep grand cherokee limited vehicle information center keeps saying coolent sensor bad. I've replaced the sensor in the overflow jug and the one right next to the thermostat for the dummy guage and...

Try disconnecting the battery cable for a few minutes, this should clear the memory. If it still comes on, sounds like you have a coolant issue such as not circulating good. You could also have a overflow cap going bad. The cap will cause more trouble than what you would expect. Good Luck

Coolant Sensor Bad Message on the Vehicle Information Center intermittently displayed on my 1996 Grand Cherokee. Have changed the Float Switch 3 times and no joy.

The problem Has nothing to do with the coolant sensor, Or for that matter anything to do with the cooling system at all, Check out Jeepforumdotcom & under "coolant sensor Bad fix" You will see that it actually has to do with crummy soldering on the back of the VIC (Vehicle Information Centre), & all that is needed to fix this problem is a bit of solder & some patience, I know this because I have changed my coolant sensor on the engine block and in the reservoir & the thermostat just to be sure & all with brand new original jeep parts not aftermarket rubbish, & all it took was a bit of solder & searching the answer on jeepforum.com

Check the inside of the plug and make sure that the prongs are in good condition. They may be corroded. Napa sells a replacement pigtail for the plug.

I get an intermittent "Coolant Sensor Bad" The FSM is clear, Bad mean the line to the coolant bottle switch is open.

The coolant sensor and the coolant level sensor are two different sensors. Your message center is showing (coolant sensor bad),not level sensor bad.
The level sensor only monitors the amount of coolant in the container
The coolant sensor senses the degrees of the coolant, which turns on the electric cooling fans. Change the coolant sensor, and the problem should go away.

Coolant level sensor bad warning comes on console

Coolant sensor wiring would be the next place to look. Make sure connector is good, and look for broken wires.

Coolant censor bad

Yes, there is another one. The one you replaced is the coolant level sensor. The ECT (ENGINE COOLANT TEMP) sensor is located near the thermostat housing. It has a 2 pin plug on it.
