Coolant coming out of the overflow spout after shutting down.

Reoccurring problem: When the engine is shut down after a drive, coolant drips out of the overflow spout of the overflow tank. Then, the tank goes empty and the cooling system eventually goes empty. I don't want to overheat the engine and keep adding 50/50 mix to the over flow. Why does the coolant evacuate the tank? 1998 Chrysler Town & Country 3.8L

It appears the tank system is(overflow) is is doing its job, but the cooling aystem is releasing too much and ytying to recover every bit ejen it cools down. Ck the radiator cap pressure rating. It shoul be between 12 and 4 lbs. Hane the old cap checkrd or just get a new one. If it's not the cap, The next thing is whether or not you have a pressurization of the cooling sysrem due to combustion leakage. This can also be tested for be a shop when the cap is tested, You can chk for that yourself by doing the following. Get a container filled with clear clean water. Submerge the overflow recovery hose end in the container. The end taht was in the recovery tank. Make sure your cooloing system/radiator is full and start your engine. Let everything stabilize. Watch your container for bubbles that contain smoke. Little snoky bubles and coolant being added to your container. If either is present you have a head gasket lea or a bad head pressurizing the cooling system.. And yes, you will end up with an overheated engine with a fever. So if there are any more Questions, feel free to ask.

About 100K miles? sounds like a blown head gasket is allowing coolant to be pushed out the exaust, and combustion pressure is pushing fluid out the overflow.have your compression tested.

I drive a kenworth t600 tractor. Engine shut down while driving no power glided to side of road what would cause the engine to shut down in mid stride

Check coolant level or possibly a bad coolant level sensor. If either of these are at fault, it can cause the engine to shut down or run with reduced power to keep from damaging the engine. Had this problem with a 2005 Freightliner w/ Detroit engine. (bad coolant level sensor)

Is Supertech 50/50 universal antifreeze okay to use in a 1996 saturn sl1? Also, how do you add antifreeze after the old has been drained?

Yes, that should be fine, especially if you have drained the system. Fill your rad, wait to see if it goes down on it's own then top up. Turn heater on full and start the car with the rad cap off. Keep adding until coolant isn't going down. Once the engine comes up to operating temperature, replace rad cap. Then shut down car and let it cool down. Then once it has cooled down, top up coolant reservoir to full mark.

Make sure rad cap is back on the rad before shutting down the car as it will overflow hot coolant all over if not...

Why is coolant leaking out of reserve tank

Make sure you only have 1/3 of the overflow tank filled with antifreeze when the engine is cold. After a drive and the engine fully heated if it overflows after being shut off you have a head gasket problem.

2006 vw bug. Gas turbo 2.0,convert. I have a radiator overheating. Dont see any leaks on the engine. Just an overflow from the overflow bottle onto the garage floor after shut down that turns on the...

Change the radiator cap. The spring on yours is getting week. The reason it does it when you shut it off and doesnt do it when its running is cause the water pump sucks the coolant out of the radiator while it is pumping so there is not much pressure on it but when you shut car off the coolant stops curculating and egine heat is not transfered coolant exspands and pushes on the cap. If your spring in the cap is getting week then it pushes it up letting the coolant pass by to your overflow tank.

Dear sir when ever i drive long distances and shuts down the engine i can hear the radiator bubbling.

Thats not necessarily a problem. I'm assuming your not overheating while driving. The bubbling sound you hear is most likely thr sound of coolant bubbling into or outoff the overflow tank. If you losing coolant, however, you may have a leak. Next time you park and turen the engine off cxheck underthe car and see if any coolant is leaking.
