the truck has 230,000 miles on it.
when i start the truck in the morning the oil gauge is past the (60) mark (max reading). then when the truck warms up the pressure drops to under 30 or lower. when i am in drive, i get this clunk feel as if the truck wants to move forward. kind of like a pressure build up and then it releases. it gets worse as the truck gets warms up or have been driving it for a while.

How many miles?? the oil pump will need to be tested with an mechanical oil pressure gauge. what is the problem that you think the oil pump is bad. Oil pumps just dont "go bad", If the oil pressure is low, then the engine most likely will need to come out. you need to explain exactly what the problem is, not what you think the cure is.

A bad oil pump will show low oil pressure and your lifters will start chattering. It is rare that ann oil pump failsyet possible. The oil pump is in the oil pan and will require the pan to come down. The pan can be remove in frame, you just have to turn the crank by hand to get the crank journal out of the way at a certain point. Yhe oil pump is the unit the pick up tube and screen are attached and it comes down by removing two bolts. The pick up tube is the hard part. Last I kmew they are pressed in and hard to separate from the pump, but it can be done. Be careful not to rotate the tube or it will be loose on install, not good.. If you have a oropane torch heat up the pump, don't over heat. Just enough fotr the tube to dlip out. Do not forget to put the distributor drive rod back in if it came out wiyh the pump. Pull the distributor so you don't fight thre drive slot alignment. Note rotor position and dirtibutor body position. Mark if necessary the orientation for assembly. Good Luck. Suggestion. Have the oil pressure ck'd and verified befor siassemblin. Put a gauge in place of sending uni for a direct reading. It's a lot of work to pull the pump. Good Luck, -Ned-

You could have a bad fuel pump have somebody to crank the engine and check bleader valve in the engine see if fuel comes out of it.

I suspect you have had an oil pump failure. To get at the rotory gear oil pump you will have to drop the oil pan. After you take the pan off, ( having drained the oil the oil pump is what the oil pick up line leads into. That pick up assy. is a round shaped disc with a screen inside it. Clean the screen first then the oil pump. Install new oil pan gasket on reassembly. Hope that helps you. Please let me know.

Hopefully the engine was not damaged when the pump broke. If it was you may need a complete engine rebuild, MAYBE.
