Bad news! Either threads are stripped, or where bolt screws in, the nut that is sometimes spot welded to hold bolt has come loose and is turning with your bolt. I would cut head off bolt, remove strap, and remove tank. Then you can see what you are dealing with. Use a little ingenuity to figure a way to make the strap hold good, when you put it back together. Good luck. If threads are stripped, and you don't want to have it tapped for new threads, try a smaller (high-grade) bolt with a nut to try and draw the strap up tight.
so there was a strap there but now its gone? Are you sure it will pull down? you will need to lift up the bottom of the seat and pull it out, then see if the back pivots down, or if you need to unbolt it (2 bolts) then lift up on the back to disengage it from the back support.
You should not need any additional parts unless something breaks. Might be a good idea to see about getting a seal for the fuel pump if you intend on putting the one you have in the new tank.
Depending on how rusted your Blazer is. You either remove the bolts from the straps or cut the straps off and replace both. Get a 2x4 and place of lift jack. The tanks should be about empty or a pain to lift. Lift the jack up to take some of the weight off the tank. Try to unbolt straps. If no luck. Get out a hand power grinder. Start cutting. That's about the only way I know. We removed my son's fuel tank off a 1988 GMC pickup last Sunday. Everything was rusted BAD The straps had to be cut. We didn't have any replacements. So we used 3 ATV orange racket straps. Worked fine so far.
i really don't understand please clarify. but there on the frame are two pyramid holes that is where the straps hold on to if that is what you are looking for. just check on the drivers rear right next to the gastank and you will see what i am talking about. to insert them you must wiggle then in.
Replacements should be available from the dealer-if not then a salvage yard. You can bring as much of the bolt as you can extract to Napa or a Hardware store and see if you can find a match. To get the other half of the bolt removed, you can try using vice-grips to turn from the bottom (unless the head is still in the other half-if this is the case, you can purchase a multi-positional head rachet handle to gain access to those hard to reach places).
yes you have to drop the tank. you will also need a fuel line tool to unhook the fuel lines. before you drop the tank see if tou can reach and wiggle the electrical connection on the top of the tank. these pumps have a pigtail issue. please rate
