When I try to start my 1990 cadillac seville the driver information center reads starting disabled due to theft system, remove ignition key and wait three minutes-two minutes- one minute then start car. The car won't start. I took the key to a cadillac dealership. They said the key was fine. Is there any way to bypass the theft system so I can start the car without replacing the whole ignition?
I've got an even cheaper and easier solution, instead of buying a new cylinder, find that plug and snip the orange wires going to the old cylinder. Then remove the resistor chip from the key and solder each of the the wires to each side. this will fool the car into thinking the correct resistor chip is in place, allowing you to use the original key or any copies with or without resistor chips. i just did this to my caddy and it roared to life! :)
Buy another new lock cylinder. Put old chip key in it, it does not need to turn , remove lower dash cover under steering column. Locate orange wire from existing lock cylinder and unplug. Plug new cylinder in to connector. now with a copy of old chip key [no chip needed] start car. Hide new cylinder or mount under dash . To activate theft system remove chip key from new lock cylinder.
