What is the special coolant refill procedure for my 92 Lumina Z34. Imust change the thermostat and what to flush the system. The book I have states that serious engine damage can occure if all the air is not removed. It looks like there are some air bleeder valves on a line on the left top side of the motor.

Have you cleaned and flushed your cooling system? Mineral deposits can clog the system or form a barrier that reduces the cooling efficiency. The acids in the radiator flush cleaner will dissolve the mineral deposits and are then drained away and the system refilled with clean water to rinse it out. Then a mixture of water and coolant are put into the system.
Also, what does your coolant look like? Is it clear or is it cloudy or look like a melted milkshake? If it's not clear, you might be getting oil into the cooling system. This could be from a cracked block or a blown head gasket.
take the spark plugs out and fill the water up. turn over the engine. see what comes out of the spark plug holes. should just be fuel. smell. you will need some one to turn the engine over and have good charge in the battery. fill the water to the top so it is level. if you see the water go down when the engine is turning. then it could be air or a leak in the head gasket.
Before replacing your thermostat make sure the fan is fully functional, the coolant system is clean or flush it with a radiator flush and see if the temperature won't drop. If it persists, then U need to change the thermostat. Good luck
Air in the system. Run the engine with the cap off, rev the engine up and this will help purge the air. Fill as needed and keep check on it for a few days.
if you have changed the thermostat. did you bleed air out of system, if air is trapped in system it will not heat right! drain radiator and flush it good, but when refilling turn heater on high heat. then bleed air out when refilling system. most all cars have a bleeder for air. if in doubt, call any auto parts store to find out where yours is. if air is in system you will see bubbles appear from bleeder. also when flushing engine, make sure you start vehicle so it circulates through engine as well as refilling system. if the upper radiator hose gets hot then check for heat from car if it is ok! close bleeder and make sure radiator is full. I think the biggest culprit is air trapped in system. before starting the flush, be sure its not caused by low coolant in radiator. have a good day!!
fill at radiator there are 2 bleeder screws 1 located on thermostat housing and 1 located to left at water pump housing. open when engine is warmed up to bleed air and refill radiater after engine cools.
Open the petcock on the bottom of the radiator and allow the old coolant to drain.
Close the petcock.
To refill you will first fill the degas container to the cold fill range, leave the cap off the canister. Turn all of the heater controls to warm and turn fan to full. Idle the engine until the thermostat opens. Top off the coolant and put the cap back on. Idle at 3000 RPM for several seconds and then idle again for a minute or so. Check the level and then repeat this 4 times, or until heat is coming from the front and rear heat units.
If you want to flush the system you will have to remove the thermostat and hook up your flush system to the radiator hose at the thermostat housing. Follow the instructions on your flush system then put the thermostat back in. Follow the instructions above to refill.
There is a small bypass hose for the thermostat. Are you asking how to do a complete flush? If you want to make sure you get all the coolant out there is a 14mm drain plug on the left side of the engine block that will allow all the coolant to drain. It is tough to get to without the right tools. Make sure you remove the small bleeder screw on the thermostat housing when refilling so all the air is purged from the system.
