Is the engine really overheating ? Hook up scan tool an see what temp. sensor is telling PCM / ECM . Did you use Infrared Thermometer Temperature Gun to see real temp. of the engine ? GM vehicles from 2003 to 2005 had issues with bad stepper motors in instrument clusters ,could show over heating when is really not . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTm2oDx-_GM&t=30s

SOURCE: cooling fans on 2001 chevy malibu will not come on unless ac on

the relays control circuit is grounded by ECM (computer) . to check this make sure the is hot enough for the fans to be commanded on by computer and check to see if you have voltage at relay and it has ground from computer . you may need ECM.
good luck

SOURCE: 2000 FORD EXPEDITION OVERHEATING....changed thermostat,radiator

yes. the impellor on these engines have a tendency to come off the water pump.First you can see if the pump is working by removing a heater hose then have someone to start the engine. if the water sprays a good, solid stream out then the water pump is good. if the water just barely comes out or not at all then the pump is weak or "bad".

I have a 02 chevy malibu My cooling fans won't turn on automatically and car begins to over heat if I turn on the a/c the fans will turn on I have recently changed the cooling temp sensor & thermostat

The fact that the fans operate when in the A/C mode means that there is nothing wrong with the fans themselves or any of their associated relays. The PCM controls the activation of the fans at all times, whether it is due to the A/C controls being on, or from sensing the coolant temperature. Thus, I'd say your problem is in the Coolant Temperature Sensor circuit. Either the replacement sensor you purchased is bad (not as likely) or there is damage in the wiring or possible the PCM itself for the circuit.

My 1999 Chevy Malibu is losing the coolant though the overflow hose by the resevior I've had my head gaskets replaced there is no overheating no water oil mix, but my radiator fans arent working I

Sounds like you need to disconnect the Radiators' electric fans and have them tested. You absolutely must have them working, or your car will overheat. Check to see if the Temperature guage is working.

You need to go to a good autoparts store and have them test the fans and charge and test your battery. You may need some sensors to activate the Radiator fans, but you could be running the battery down with shorted cooling fans.

There are also Relays which work with the Radiator fans. The overflow will stabilize once the water gets into where it belongs. Make sure your Thermostat is not clogged with the sealer.

My car temp dosnt go up idk if the thermostats stuck shut or not??if how do i unstick it?

if the temp gage doesn`t go up you could have a gage problem or even a coolant sensor problem that works the gage only and not the one that sends a signal to the pcm to turn on the cooling fans and monitor the engine temperature,if it is the thermostat then it will be stuck open and the only way to correct the problem is to replace the thermostat other wise it can stick open again or closed causing the engine to overheat.

CHECK COOLANT LEVEL MOST NEWER VECHICLE DONT HAVE RADIATOR CAP YOU HAVE TO POUR COOLANT IN THE COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG THE COOLANT WILL GO TO RADIATOR. IF THE COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG EMPTY ADD COOLANT UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STOP DROPPING AT STAY AT FULL COLD MARK.IF COOLANT OKAY,NEED TO REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG PRESSURE CAP. IF ALL BEEN DONE. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN CAR OVERHEATING WHILE MOVING. RADIATOR CORES STOPPED UP OR RADIATOR GRILLE DIRTY OR RESRICTED.ENGINE BLOCK COOLANT PASSAGES CLOGGED AND HEATER CORE CLOGGED.CHECK WATER PUMP SEE IF WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE LEAKING IF SO REPLACE WATER PUMP.IF ENGINE OVERHEATING AT A LONG TRAFFIC LINE ENGINE COOLING FANS NOT RUNNING EITHER COOLING FANS FUSE AND RELAYS BAD.OR ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE BAD. THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR TURNS ON COOLING FANS AT A CERTAIN TEMPERATURE IF SENSOR BAD FANS WONT TURN ON. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50 /50 MIXTURE OF COOLANT AND WATER IN COOLING SYSTEM.

Noticed temp gauge running a little higher than normal.cooling fans turn on and off very quickly. turned on ac and the fans run. trying to diagnose without getting taken to the cleaners from the...

Check your coolant levels. If the temperature isn't much higher than normal, you may be fine, or you may have a Coolant Temperature Sensor going bad, and reporting the incorrect temperature. Even though the thermostat was replaced 8 months ago, it is possible it is already going bad again. I believe this is more of a Coolant Temp. Sensor fault though. The cooling fans are On when the AC is on. With the AC off, the cooling fans come on when the engine reaches a certain temperature, and cut off once the temperature is back in range. The Coolant Temperature sensor shouldn't cost much, and is easy to replace. I would start with that, top it off with coolant, and then maybe change the thermostat.

Overheating 1992 acra integra

The coolant temp sensor tells the computer tempurature of engine at all times. It tells the coolant fans to come on,and also very important, when to cut off.If the fans don`t go off by them selfs, then temp is not going down. Now this is if the ac is off, cooling fans come on any time ac is turned on,so check for fans coming on and off with ac off.A bad coolant sensor would cause the fans not ot come on,but not to cut off nessasaralyCoolant systems must be bled of air trapped in systemfor the engine to be cooled .If air is in the system, the coolant won`t flow correctly.

94' Caprice Fans not turning on to cool motor = overheating motor

Do this test with the key in run but engine off unplug the ECT (engine coolant temp.) sensor, if the fans turn on (does this by default) the system is ok, if not then check the Fan relay. Also look for burning of the electrical connections to the cooling fans.

My 2001 lincoin ls gauge goes up to the h and then come back down

you probably have air trapped in the system. Have dealer or radiator shop bleed system.

I assume your cooling fan is working.

SECTION 303-03: Engine Cooling 2001 Lincoln LS Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Engine Cooling The cooling system components include the:
  • block heater (optional)
  • cylinder head temperature sensor
  • fan blade, fan motor and fan shroud assembly
  • radiator
  • pressure relief cap
  • degas bottle
  • radiator draincock
  • water pump
  • oil cooler (optional)
  • water thermostat
The water thermostat:
  • controls the engine coolant temperature.
  • allows quicker engine warm-up.
The degas bottle:
  • provides a location for system fill.
  • contains coolant expansion and system pressurization.
  • provides air separation during operation.
  • replenishes the engine coolant to the system.
The fan blade draws air through the radiator to help cool the engine coolant.
The fan motor:
  • operates only when the engine is running.
  • will not operate when the engine is off.
The engine coolant flows:
  • from the lower radiator hose to the water pump.
  • from the water pump to the engine block and the cylinder heads.
A closed water thermostat returns the engine coolant to the water pump. An open water thermostat allows the engine coolant to flow to the radiator.
Unsatisfactory coolant materials:
  • Alcohol-type antifreeze does not provide adequate water pump lubrication.
    • has lower boiling point
    • reduced antifreeze protection
  • Alkaline brine solutions will cause serious engine cooling system damage.
The cylinder head temperature sensor provides a signal to the temperature gauge.
  • will invoke failsafe cooling.
The optional block heater:
  • electrical heating element is installed in the block cooling jacket.
    • uses a standard 110V (220V in Europe) electrical supply
  • keeps the engine coolant warm during cold weather.
The auxiliary water pump (3.9L only):
  • provides heater coolant flow boost.
  • has a secondary function of providing engine-off cooling.
