First lesson in mechanics for an engine to work we need certain things.Electrical nice blue spark at leads to ignite fuel in combustion chamber. And we need compression.A lot of people go off and start ripping the whole car a part.Costing themselves big dollars. Most problems are not big dollars.Because there mates think there mechanics.Ive been diagnosing for 40 plus years for customers and other mechanics and workshops. And i still dont no it all.Rember this saying.I.C.P.E. In 2002 they discontinued the external trans filter. So your vehicle could have the external filter. If you look next to the trans dipstick tube, on top of the trans case you will see the filter or you will see just a spot where the filter use to go before they eliminated it. Yes, the filter does llok like a regular engine oil filter. If the trans does not have the external filter ontop then there is no service to the filter to be done, the only recommendation is to bring vehicle into a shop to have the fluid flushed. By the way, make SURE you use the correct Hyundai SP-III trans fluid (not dexron/mercon). This fluid is specific to the Hyundai and can not be purchased from auto parts stores, only the dealership. Failure to use SP-III will cause premature wear to the internal bands and clutches.

Does the Check Engine light come ON when this happens? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we can go from there.
