2010 Ford Explorer makes a sound when i accelerate after i hit 30 mph.

However i can use cruise control and accelerate and no sound happens. Also if i take my foot off the gas when the sound starts and the put my foot back down the sound doesn't return until i go below 30 and accelerate again. The sound itself is a knocking noise. It's not squealing so i know its not the belts and its not a wheel bearing either as i have checked all of those and seen no issues. A friend had a similar issue and said his mechanic told him there was problem directly with the accelerator. I have to take this through a dealership mechanic and the guy really isn't a genius so I'm trying to diagnose the problem first and then get them to fix it.

It may be better and safer to have a mechanic diagnose this problem. Your Ford has many drivetrain components. This knocking noise could be a cracked flexplate, brakes, driveshafts, a bearing or some internal gear. It may be necessary to raise all four tires off the ground, bring the vehicle to 30 MPH and locate the source of the knocking. Please don't attempt this. This action is extremely dangerous and should only be performed by a trained professional. If performed incorrectly. In less than a second this could result in property damage, injury or *****. The drivetrain produces a lot of power and at 30 MPH the wheels, axles and driveshafts are spinning and are extremely dangerous. We don't know why the vehicle is knocking. You could be looking at something that is ready to fail. I'm not trying to scare you to be mean. I want to educate you. Respect the Danger. I don't know your skill level. Please understand, I want to help. Let me know how you make out or if there is anything else. Good luck.

SOURCE: Squealing noise Upon slow acceleration

Hey- I have the exact same problem with my Z4 although its a 06 as opposed to an 04. I took it to the shop and was told it was break dust covering the break sensors. They removed my rear calipers and rotors, cleaned and greased the brakes. So far I havent had the sound again. Doesnt it feel so weird to be driving around with the top down on a nice day then slow down at a red light and be accosted with such a horrible sound like that? It drove me absolutely nuts. It went from a light sound only when I was barely accelerating (like trying to find a parking spot) to a bit of a scratchy metal sound which is why I think the problem may apply to you as well.

On a side note, I am also told by a friend of mine who is also a bimmer guy that it might be due to the brake pads vibrating back and forth inside the brake caliper. He suggests checking out a $2 investment in a product called Plastilube which will stop the noise. I did a quick search and you can purchase it by going to:

SOURCE: Squealing noise Upon slow acceleration

hi, i have a bmw 316 1.9ltr and recently mine has had a high pitch squeel almost a screaching sound from the engine bay, after allot of investigation i found it not to be the the serpentine belt it actually was a crank case breather valve, when the vacuum of the engine gets to much it starts screeching, when you pull the engine oil dip stick out, it stops and you can hear it sucking in air, you could always try taking off the oil filler cap when it starts screeching when i say try, it is realy realy hard to pull off, give it a try you will find out if its that then, it also could be what daftdad said it might be the belt or an ideler bearing....hope this helps

SOURCE: Stalls at low speed when in cruise control

You sould have recieved a "recall" notice in the mail about the cruise control for fire and failure issues. they are adding a fusable link where the cruise control harness connects to the brake master cylinder. if you have not had the recall performed yet you should SERIOUSLY consider getting it done, mainly so it doesnt catch fire, but "could" be the result of the failure you've been experiancing! btw, almost ALL Ford vehicles have been affected with the cruise control recall. hope this helps!

SOURCE: 2004 Ford F150 XF4 has a humming noise from rear

Ring and pinion noise for sure, yes. Check for play right at the yoke where the drive shaft goes in.
I've seen a few fords where the pinion nut was loose and after re torquing they lasted another 100,000

2002 ford explorer 4.0 4x4 driving 75 mph cruise control on then all of a sudden lost of power can't make 20 mph

First check the fuel pressure. Should be around 60 psi. If that is ok check to make sure something did not restrict the exhaust system. Check for engine and transmission codes for clues.

What should the rmp be on a 1996 Ford explorer 4.0 2 wd?

without more information I would be willing to say at an idle around 600-750 maximum driving at around 70 mph should not exceed 2800 now keep in mind that's a cruising speed not accelerating. But I would not go over 4000 accelerating

Cruise control won't hold speed

This appears to be a common occurrence in some Ford Products. (i,e Taurus, etc, 2003 to 2010?) Seems the cruise control cable can catch on the uptake and fail to release. One way to check is to jack up the rear tires, start the car, (and engage the cruise control to attempt to duplicate the problem SAFELY. Look under the hood, at the behavior of the cruise control cable. Is it kinked, or snagged? If so, re position the cable slightly to clear any possible obstructions. Good Luck!

2010 Nissan Pathfinder Cruise Control issues

First I'll assume you haven't read the owners Manuel, Cruise control is not perfect on any vehicle. if coming to a hill put foot on gas to help rpm, going down hill put foot on brake to keep same speed, cruise control operates off of engine vacuum. Speed sensors can be affected by putting on smaller or bigger tires than what is on drivers door.

Why cruise control won't work on 2003 ford explorer

If you hit "On", cruise control is on. It's just not set to the speed.

To properly set the cruise control, do the following procedure:

  1. Select the "On" button on the left side of the steering wheel
  2. On the right side of the steering wheel, there is a "+" along with "Set", press that button after you have accelerated to the speed you desire to maintain.
  3. Use the "+ and -" to speed up or slow down your vehicle.
  4. To temporarly disable the cruise control, simply press the brake pedal.
  5. To resume the previously desired speed, press the top button "Resume"
